Subject: RE: Folklore: I need Folk Trivia questions ASAP From: Mike Miller Date: 01 Oct 07 - 08:09 AM OK, I'm back. the evening was a success. The oldtimers knew more folksong trivia than the newtimers but, what else is new. The Chad Mitchell Trio morphed into Denver, Boise and Johnson (The Denver being John) I love that Watzing Matilda one. (Andy sang, Andy sat) It reminds one of the tenth reindeer, Olive. (Olive, the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names) Mike |

Subject: RE: Folklore: I need Folk Trivia questions ASAP From: manitas_at_work Date: 01 Oct 07 - 08:51 AM Sorry, but the point was to explain the questions about Irish fishermen. Google and Wikipedia don't seem to show much about the origins of this sailors heaven but do show how popular the song has become and how often it's assumed to be an Irish song (because of Conolly being an Irish name?). |
