OK, I'm back. the evening was a success. The oldtimers knew more folksong trivia than the newtimers but, what else is new.
The Chad Mitchell Trio morphed into Denver, Boise and Johnson (The Denver being John)
I love that Watzing Matilda one. (Andy sang, Andy sat)
It reminds one of the tenth reindeer, Olive. (Olive, the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names)

"Fiddlers Green was written by John Conolly ".. of Hull, on the east coast of England. Not irish fishermen in particular, just fishermen.

Sorry, but the point was to explain the questions about Irish fishermen. Google and Wikipedia don't seem to show much about the origins of this sailors heaven but do show how popular the song has become and how often it's assumed to be an Irish song (because of Conolly being an Irish name?).

The other assumption Manitas is that Fiddlers Green is Trad LOL
Howveer you are correct, it would sometimes seem that the song is owned by the Irish :-)

Don't you love, or haven't you ever loved, little brown jug?
Wha gaed wantonly?
