Subject: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: Paco Date: 25 Apr 99 - 02:28 AM Been looking for chords for "Ramblin' Boy" by Tom Paxton as well as "Follow" by Richie Havens and "Take a giant step" by Taj Mahal. I've loved these songs for years and haven't been able to find them anywhere...maybe I have just been looking in the wrong places-- Paco |

Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: campfire Date: 25 Apr 99 - 03:17 AM I can't find the Tom Paxton song on-line anywhere, but its in Rise Up Singing. I would say if you don't have a copy, you should, (but I'd have to duck ;) ) so I'll just say if you don't have a copy, it's probably at your local library. Can't find the third song for you - yet. |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Apr 99 - 03:59 AM Campfire says she's too tired from all the effort she put out wishing she knew how to make links, so she just doesn't have the energy to post the chords to RAMBLIN' BOY (click for lyrics). I guess the responsibility falls on me, since there are few Mudcatters up this time of night. This song demands a fair amount of vocal range, so you may have to adjust the key up or down so the singers can hit all the notes. Here are the chords from the Rise Up Singing songbook. The slashes indicate a new line. If there's nothing between the slashes, that means the line is the same as the previous one. Dashes mean the chord is the same as the previous one. E - A - / / A D A - / E - A -Hope that helps. Two songs down, one to go. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: campfire Date: 25 Apr 99 - 04:11 AM Joe, I really just wanted to push RUS. This is why it ought to be on everybody's bookshelf, don'tcha think? Plus I didn't think of JUST putting the chords - I thought I'd have to type out all the lyric lines with with little letters above them - and that wouldn't work spaced out right, would it. And thanks for the link-lesson. You're so tolerant. I'm only still up "winding down" from a night out listening to music. I have to be at work in 5 hours. I'm not sure I'll Rise Up Singing in the morning! campfire |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: Paco Date: 25 Apr 99 - 11:57 AM Joe and Campfire... Thanks so much for finding those for me! Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised this morning to find your responses. If you do stumble over the Richie Havens tune please let me know. Campfire, I just breezed through Rise Up Singing (which I do own) and I couldn't believe it, there on ol' page 66 was that "Rambling Boy" staring back at me. I don't know how many times I've gone though that book and never seen it--guess it will teach me to use the index for finding music and to read the instructions when operating my stereo! Paco |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: campfire Date: 25 Apr 99 - 01:54 PM See - I KNEW I didn't have to do all that typing in the middle of the night! I hope you're having a better day than I am (YAWN) |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: Paco Date: 25 Apr 99 - 02:28 PM Hey Campfire--glad you didn't do all that typing too! But I appreciate the thought. Do you have the CD "Troubadours of the Folk Era" (vol 2)? I originally got it for "The Circle Game" sung by Tom Rush and "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell. I then discovered MANY other great songs, some I remembered, and others I did not. Anyways--it's GREAT if you don't already have it. Paco |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: TequilaRon (inactive) Date: 25 Apr 99 - 06:36 PM One reason you may be having trouble finding "Follow" is that it wasn't written by Ritchie Havens. Havens recorded it on Mixed Bag and is most frequently identified with the song, but it actually was written by a fairly unknown songwriter named Jerry Merrick. I had the priviledge of seeing Merrick perform at the Beaux Arts Coffee House in Pinellas Park, FL. back in the sixties. Merrick said that he wrote the song as a bedtime lullaby to his younger sister. Quite a song and Merrick was quite a performer. Wonder what happened to him? TequilaRon. |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: Mark Roffe Date: 26 Apr 99 - 12:48 AM What I do for "Follow" is (see if you can follow this!) - I use three main chords for the verses: 1) a regular "A" chord on the 2nd fret, 2) a Bm that only frets three strings (4th string/4th fret, 3rd string/4th fret, 2nd string/3rd fret) and leaves the 5th and 1st strings open, 3) a C#m that's played just like the Bm slid up two more frets (leave the 5th and 1st strings open) 4) a regular "E" chord on 1st/2nd frets. I don't have time right now to teach myself how to write the chords over the lyrics in HTML, but once you see how the chord goes up and down the neck, you'll see how it flows:
A/Bm/C#m/Bm (2x)
Please let me know if this makes sense to you. Mark See this thread for lyrics: Lyr/Chords Req: Follow (from Richie Havens). —JoeClone 30-Oct-2008. |
Subject: RE: Help for chords of three or four tunes... From: Paco Date: 26 Apr 99 - 11:02 AM Thanks Mark, I will give that song a try and "see" how it sounds! Paco This thread will be closed because it's best to have only one song per thread, and one thread per song. Please follow one of the links above if you want to discuss any of these songs further.. —JoeClone 30-Oct-2008. |
