c.1928 – 1 October 2007 an English composer and jazz musician; after joining the BBC in 1961, he was the BBC's Light Entertainment Musical Director.

During the 1960s and 70s, Hazlehurst composed or arranged the theme tunes to most of the BBC's light entertainment shows, including such hits as The Two Ronnies, Yes, Minister, Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em and Are You Being Served?

He was also the musical director of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, 1977 and 1982........ but, no one's perfect

Yep had a stroke last week according to the Beeb. May not have loved his music but it was instantly recognisable. Sad for the family all the same.

I didn't realize he'd written so many theme tunes. RIP Mr. Hazlehurst.

His music may not have been "high art" but he had a flair for writing themes which captured the feel of a programme. Last of the Summer Wine is an excellent example. He also had the ability to write music that complemented the action in a very discrete way. These are not inconsiderable abilities IMO.

Geoff
