Announced by Mick Peat and Lester Simpson on BBC Radio Derby's Folkwaves programme this evening, the sad death of the stalwart behind Chesterfield's Attic Folk Club, David Davidson.
The hard work he put into putting on some find acts, both well known as not so well known, has been appreciated by many.
Sympathy to his family and friend, but as well as mouning the loss, let us rejoice for a life well lived!!
He will be sorely missed.

David was always forthcoming with detailed information regarding the Attic Club for The Nottingham Evening Post and it was a pleasure to chat with him on regular basis. A genuine folk music enthusiast who will be missed in the East Midlands and further afield. RIP
Dave Sutherland

We have just heard the sad news and our thoughts are with Margaret and the family. David gave us his time and energy as well as great advice and we will both sadly miss this great little man.

See you somewhere down the road David

Love Una and Tony

I took would like to say a belated "thank you" to David for the work he put in organising the Attic Folk Club. Its only for the last couple of years that we've attended regulalry (it was always so difficult to get hold of tickets).

David was looking at bit frail at the Coope, Boyes and Simpson concert last month, evidently he'd driven his car into a tree, which had rather upset him. Its going to be a strange atmosphere at the Marie Little concert this Friday without him.

Yours was a life well spent Dave, thanks for all you've done for me, Chesterfield, and folk music in general. You're going to leave a much bigger gap than the space you occupied.

David was a real character who loved to see other people enjoying he music he spent so much time and effort promoting.

Chesterfield won't be the same without him.

On behalf of myself and the Woodlark Folk club we'd like to express our congratulations to David for a spectacular contribution to music and a wonderful legacy, when it comes to respect and admiration you actually CAN take it with you when you go!

Condolences to friends and family, hopefully they will be comforted by the messages of support.

Dave is already missed. I will be there on the door tonight because he would have wanted it so but the place will never be the same again.

I called him the ageless leprechaun since he seemed to have always been there. Sadly no more.

Irreplaceable.

Sadly we will not be able to make it tonight as we have a gig elsewhere. We will take time to dedicate a song to David and hope you all have a good time.

I first met David when he walked into my club he was intrduced to me by his son Sean.Do you fancy putting some folk music on he said .whats thaat came my reply.from then on for the next couple of years we were to become good friends and the birth of the Attic Folk club in its original venue happpened
My family and i Jane,Josh and Mollie moved to Oz in 2004 but although we had been away from chesterfield since 1998 we still called to see David and his lovely wife

It is sad to hear of his death but i am sure he is already setting a folk club up in that big attic up there

God bless david all our thoughts with you Margaret
