Andy Irvine has just completed a UK tour with Donal Lunny in Mozaik including the wonderful Nikola Parov too. A great band and new CD.
Next comes a US tour with Patrick Street and another new CD.
Then comes a solo tour of the UK. Never tire of the road indeed!

Good news, mates, if you can get to Queensland.

Andy, with Rens van der Zalm, will be at the Woodford Folk Festival 27th Dec 2007 to 1st Jan 2008. Woodford is an hour and a half north of Brisbane. The programme will be published on 1st Novemebr.

With two fiddlers, Rens van der Zalm and Bruce Molsky, in full flow, I thought Mozaik were the best Irish group I have heard. The old time and East European tunes were great too!

Happy new year!

That's grand!! All good things to them. Be happy for the health to keep on enjoying the road. (Infirmities can surely make it a chore.)

I always enjoyed what was done to "The Ballad Of Tom Joad" by them. It showed that Brits can do American folk songs tastefully and well---even after L. Donegan bastardized all that he did with them.

I must make sure to hear more of them!!!

I've been told that when he heard Woody Guthrie sing Tom Joad, Ernest Hemingway said, "If I had heard the song first, I wouldn't have needed to write the book."

Last week in Dublin, Andy Irvine performed his one man show about Woody Guthrie. It marked Woody's death 40 years ago and the proceeds went towards research into Huntington's Disease (previously known as Huntington's Chorea).

Would that be the book that John Steinbeck wrote?

You're right. Hemingway said, "I never wrote that book!"

Art,

Don't want to turn this thread political but Mozaic consist of 1 Brit (sort of), an Irishman, a Dutchman, a Bulgarian (I think) and a man from the USA. A truly international band, they can turn their hands to many styles of folk music which I think is one of the great strengths of the band.

I am sure they can! That's why I want to hear their music. "Tom Joad" is the only song I've ever heard Andy and Patrick do. And it surely caught my attention.

I do almost prefer their tune to the usual "John Hardy" tune woody put it to. Near the end of their rendition, Andy & Patrick DID insert an instrumental chorus of the original tune. A great touch I thought.

Folk music is no longer on the radio where I live, so I'm lucky to know of them at all given realities here and now.

I thought "Never Tire of the Road" was a song, that followed "You Picked a Fine Time To Leave Me Loose Wheel".

"Never tire of the road" actually is a song by Andy Irvine.

I'm sure Henry knows that and used it as a thread title on purpose, but I'm less sure Barry knows that.

Thanks Wolfgang, Barry figured it was a song but he's never heard it, I have heard Andy though.
