Subject: Folk Music - Budapest From: GUEST,Flatpick Date: 12 Oct 07 - 12:42 PM I'll be in Budapest for about a week starting Sunday night. Any 'Catters know of a good music venue in the Buda part of town? |

Subject: RE: Folk Music - Budapest From: Mrrzy Date: 12 Oct 07 - 12:55 PM Man, just find any borozo (if you like wine) or sorozo (if you like beer) - there will be music. Now I'll try with the accents: borozó söautröautzöaut, but that last is a "long" umlaut, in contrast to the "short" ones on the first 2 vowels, but no other language has 2 different umlauts so there is no code for it Look for "csardas" in local papers - that's the fancy dancing. Really spelled csárdás... if the accents work... |

Subject: RE: Folk Music - Budapest From: Stewart Date: 12 Oct 07 - 03:00 PM Stay away from the touristy restaurants where you will encounter some of the worst schmaltzy violin players. At one place the violinist came up to our table and asked us where we were from. When we said, the States, he then proceeded to play Danny Boy (???). You are expected to put some folding money under their violin fingerboard. I was trying to figure out how much to give him so he would stop playing. Then on a nice afternoon as we were walking around the Castle, we heard some fantastic classical violin playing - a Bach unaccompanied concerto. We talked to the musician - he was a very fine player, but didn't have much money and was busking there. So that was a very nice experience. That was about 6 years ago. Cheers, S. in Seattle |

Subject: RE: Folk Music - Budapest From: Folkiedave Date: 12 Oct 07 - 03:26 PM We were there in 2000 and 2004 at international dance festivals, the first at Gygongos and then all over Hungary. Great place. Some great music but we had a local guide. Sorry no idea where we went!! |
