Guest, leeneia asked: "What's Morricone music?"

That was a short reference to music by Italian composer Ennio Morricone who rose to fame, at least for me, with his soundtracks of the "spaghetti" westerns in the 60s (Good, Bad & Ugly perhaps being the most recognized).

He has since gone on to composing for many other major films, most of which are nothing like the early work with western flavor.

His "sound" in most of the westerns has since led to homage being paid to him by a variety of musicians that are light-years removed in genre/style from Morricone's orchestral compositions. The one that leaps to mind right now is Metallica and the song "The Unforgiven" on their "Black" album; the intro of that song immediately calls to mind the Morricone music from the early westerns.

I think the reason my son sent me the link was that he knew I really like Morricone's earlier work and thought I'd get a kick out of that rendition.

I saw them at Cambridge. Very very good.

I thought the bass-ukulele was a joke!

Try to see them - their show is really great!

And as they told on the show I saw: the big instrument is a bass-ukulele, not a bassguitar. guitars have six strings, ukuleles four strings, so since it has four strings, it is a bass-ukulele...

Best
Ernest

I enjoyed the string playing, but then the vocables got tiresome.

What's Morricone music?

Was the biggest instrument a ukelele too, or was it a guitar? I couldn't get a good count of the strings.

Thanks for posting.

My son sent me this somewhat unusual music video. The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain renders their version of the main theme to The Good, the Bad & the Ugly.

This is actually pretty good, especially if you like that Morricone music.
