The Harry Fox Agency's songfile.com Website has two listings for songs titled "Daddy Roll 'Em." One was written by Will Holt and recorded by J.D. Woods. The other was written by Joel Gibson, and recorded by Bob Gibson and by Billy Strange.
The Gibson lyrics are posted above. I couldn't find a recording of the Will Holt song.

Not cowboy, but does it have to have a handle? More about a type of person.

Lyrics copied from Digital Dream Door:

DADDY ROLL 'EM
Written by Bob Gibson
© Melody Trails (BMI)

They call me daddy, daddy roll 'em, they call me daddy roll 'em down, down, down.
And when I roll 'em, I really roll 'em, they call me daddy roll 'em down.
They call me daddy, daddy drive 'em, they call me daddy drive 'em down, down, down.
And when I drive 'em, I really drive 'em, they call me daddy drive 'em down.

Ten more miles and we'll make that mountain roar.
Ten more miles and we're on hard ground.
Julie gal can't you hear me callin' to ya.
They call me daddy roll 'em down.

Julie gal can't you hear me callin' to ya.
Julie gal don't you understand.
So many miles that I can hardly count 'em now.
I feel you pullin' me by my hand.

They call me daddy, daddy roll 'em, they call me daddy roll 'em down, down, down.
And when I roll 'em, I really roll 'em, they call me daddy roll 'em down.

[As sung by Roger McGuinn on "Live From Mars," 1996.

[I've also listened to a couple of sound samples of Bob Gibson & Bob Camp, and it sounds like they're singing "Junie", not "Julie".

[Also, I'm not sure this is the song requested. It doesn't sound much like a cowboy song to me.]

I had the pleasure of hearing Bob Gibson do the song late one night at his place in the west Village. Man, he could sing and play and write.

The bio posted by Peace interested me because of Holt's part in the Kurt Weill show.
Also have a lot of cowboy and western songs.

Recommended recording of "Daddy Roll Em?

I'm getting ready to record "Daddy Roll 'Em", a hard-drivin' cowboy song. Can ANYbody tell me for sure whether or not this song is in the Public Domain or will I have to get a mechanical license for it? I've been everywhere I can think of to come up with an answer and I can't find a trace of an author/composer.
