There is a wonderful event coming up in Chinook Washington USA on October 27th..do try and attend..actually two events..one in Astoria that evening.

The Parks Department has contracted with Hank Cramer, well-known NW singer, to put on, with his friends..David Lovine for sure is one..a sea shanty school of the Columbia River..held at Ft. Columbia State Park...9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can buy a box lunch there...it is a beautiful place. There are a variety of workshops (I will lead one on Columbia River songs..hopefully with at least one well-known local person but I can't say who because he hasn't confirmed..)   

Then in the evening, I think at 7:30 but I am not sure..the same crew..most of whom have sailed before the mast...mostly Lady Washington...will put on a concert at the Maritime Museum in Astoria.

The first event is free. I do not know if there is a charge for the concert.

I think this is very important...and at a time of year that does not conflict with Fisher Poets..held in Astoria in February each year. I have been saying for years "they" should do something like this and sure enough "they" are..Parks Department no less. This is too important a maritime place with too rich a history to not have something like this....

And we think probably of furs and salmon..but there is so much more...lumber of course..oysters that fed San Francisco..a very rich Native American (Chinook) history...military..Ft. Stevens was attacked in WWII...getting wheat from Palouse to Korea...windsurfing...

So please come. There is camping here and there..lots of motels. I would invite people to stay at my house but I have roommates and we agree not to have guests over... mg

So, does anyone think they can make it?

Also, famed Fisher Poet Moe Boestern will be in Astoria Oct 20..soon..at the local coffeehouse..mg
