2MBS is a community radio station in Sydney, Australia, now accessible online at
http://www.2mbs.com/

Mostly the station plays classical music, but there is a folk music program at 6pm the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month (and a World Music program every Sunday at 4pm). I think that's 4am Saturday in New York, and 9am Saturday in London. I think.

Here's my tentative playlist for Saturday 27 October 2007:

Jez Lowe                                  Taking On Men
Bok, Muir & Trickett                We Built This Old Ship
Monsieur Camembert               Suzanne
Monsieur Camembert               Bird on a Wire
The Johnstons                           The Story of Isaac
The Wheeze and Suck Band    The Day the Virgin Mary Came to Coogee
Peter Hicks                               Glenrowan
Kate Delaney                            We Rise Again
The Rankin Family                   Oich U Agus H'Iuraibh Eile
Christine Lavin                         The Most Polite City in the World
Jonatha Brooke                         Bleecker Street
Roy Bailey                               Ballad Maker's Apprentice
Art Thieme                               A Handful of Songs

Subject: RE: LYR: Ned Kelly Souvenir Song by Peter Hicks
From: Sandra in Sydney
Date: 24 Oct 07 - 07:55 PM

no way Peter Hicks is an ex-Sydneysider who now lives in Tasmania

He & his partner write great songs, here's 'Glenrowan' aka 'Ned Kelly Souvenir Song'

------------------

From the CD The Times We've Been Through.

Oh what they do to our figures of historical importance in the name of tourism.

Ned Kelly Souvenir Song

by Peter Hicks and Geoff Francis

You should go down to Glenrowan, they've got so much going
And there's heaps for you to see,
You can start your day at the Ned Kelly museum, it's a slice of history.
You can see all them relics and lots of exhibits
And the newspaper cuttings too,
But best of all are the souvenirs you can take away with you.

They've got.... Ned Kelly boomerangs, Ned Kelly billy cans,
Ned Kelly kangaroos,
Ned Kelly toothpicks, Ned Kelly horse whips
And Ned Kelly helmets too.
Ned Kelly pistols, Ned Kelly crystals,
New Age Ned Kellies and more,
With Ned Kelly key rings and Ned Kelly g-strings, made in Singapore.

For a good half hour you can take in the power of
The Ned Kelly theatre show.
They've got illustrations and animations and Ned Kellies on the go.
It's such a thrill that you won't sit still
And you'll find the time has flown.
And you'll sure want to stop at the theatre shop for something to take home.

They've got...Ned Kelly boomerangs, Ned Kelly billy cans,
Ned Kelly kangaroos,
Ned Kelly toothpicks, Ned Kelly horse whips
And Ned Kelly helmets too.
Ned Kelly condoms, Ned Kelly bonbons,
Ned Kelly jams and sauce,
Ned Kelly pencils, Ned Kelly stencils
And Ned Kellies on a horse.
Ned Kelly pistols, Ned Kelly crystals,
New age Ned Kellies and more,
With Ned Kelly key rings and Ned Kelly g-strings made in Singapore.

Be sure not to miss the giant Ned Kelly
I know you'll be impressed.
But of all of the wonders of Glenrowan, the Ned Kelly Inn is best.
You can sit outside in the noon day sun and sip on a Ned Kelly ale,
And while you're there you can pick up your share of the artefacts for sale.

They've got...Ned Kelly boomerangs, Ned Kelly billy cans,
Ned Kelly kangaroos,
Ned Kelly toothpicks, Ned Kelly horse whips
And Ned Kelly helmets too.
Ned Kelly condoms, Ned Kelly bonbons,
Ned Kelly jams and sauce,
Ned Kelly pencils, Ned Kelly stencils
And Ned Kellies on a horse.
Ned Kelly teaspoons, Ned Kelly perfumes,
Ned Kelly bars of soap,
Ned Kelly beer mats, Ned Kelly bush hats,
And Ned Kellies on a rope.
Ned Kelly pistols, Ned Kelly crystals,
New age Ned Kellies and more,
With Ned Kelly key rings and Ned Kelly g-strings made in Singapore.

This program honors the memory of Stan Rogers, who passed away 25 years ago this month, and of Utah Phillips, who passed away last month. It also features the music of several artists who are playing in Sydney in the next two weeks, and a couple of other, newish, pieces I just feel like playing. Saturday 14 June 6-7pm Sydney time (1-2am in California, 4-5am in New York, 9-10am in London, I think), 2MBS-FM 102.5, streaming at http://www.2mbs.com

Tentative playlist:

Stan Rogers             Mary Ellen Carter
Martin Pearson         Lies
Eric Bogle                Lockkeeper
Phyllis Sinclair         Wreck of the Dictator
Cerys Matthews      An Occasional Song
Utah Phillips            Daddy, What's a Train
Finest Kind             Goodnight-Loving Trail
Utah Phillips            Starlight on the Rails
Arlo Guthrie            City of New Orleans
Lyrebird                  Alfie
Peter Hicks             City to the Summit
Battlefield Band      I am a Forlorn Man

This program pays lip service to the current Olympic games in Beijing with Grit Laskin's song, The End of a Pointed Gun; then honors the memory of Erik Darling, who passed away earlier this week; then goes on to some newer recordings that have appealed to me. Saturday 9 August, 6-7pm Sydney time on 2MBS-FM 102.5, streaming on the web at http://www.2mbs.com, time conversions as in the previous message in this thread.

Tentative playlist:

Grit Laskin                                                          The End of a Pointed Gun
Grit Laskin                                                          Cosmic and Freaky
The Rooftop Singers                                           Walk Right In
The Rooftop Singers                                           Old Joe Clark
Ed McCurdy                                                       Strawberry Roan
Judy Collins                                                         The Prickilie Bush
The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem          Johnny I Hardly Knew You
The Kossoy Sisters                                              I'll Fly Away
Dev'lish Mary                                                      Wild Rose of the Mountain
Martin Pearson                                                    The Ballad of Barry and Freda
Danny Spooner                                                   Thirty-ton Line

The Ned Kelly song above reminded me of one called 'Our Sunshine' by Paul Kelly (no relation as far as I know!)I should probably post lyrics in a Ned Kelly thread though...I'm off to find one.
PS will attempt to listen to this radio program tomorrow. Thanks for the info on it!
Cheers,
Quokka
