Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: GUEST,Cookieless Duck with ruffled feathers. Date: 25 Oct 07 - 06:05 AM So I've paid my licence fee and bought my freeview box as instructed by the BBC and yet as soon as something is on that I want to watch I can't and have to put up with another three hundred pints of lager and a cart load of crisps. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 Oct 07 - 07:01 AM Aye lad, we used to dream o't Freeview. It is scheduled for my area in 2010. Of course I do have a TV with a built in Freeview receiver. Obviously some people's TV licence payments are worth more than others ! Giok |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 25 Oct 07 - 07:02 AM Yup, the only thing I want to watch is A Tribute to Lal Waterson and I can't see it as I have Freeview. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: Jim Moray Date: 25 Oct 07 - 08:38 AM I don't quite understand how these things can be available on digital and also not - freeview essentially IS BBC digital. Who exactly can see these things? (cable tv viewers and satellite I suppose but its a bit weird that there is a different feed to these from freeview) All the performances are going to be up on the website starting on Friday though so you will all get to see them. http://www.bbc.co.uk/electricproms/2007/schedule/261007/ |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: Mrs_Annie Date: 25 Oct 07 - 11:31 AM I agree - it doesn't seem fair. I'm lucky we have satellite (well we do pay an arm and a leg for it) but they are plugging the Freeview boxes so much, they should make sure people can get everything that's available. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 26 Oct 07 - 02:50 AM Couldn't agree more. Whilst visiting some old colleagues in the Sound truck at C Sharp House, I was lucky enough to see an hour or so of the soundcheck. (Couldn't stay for the show though!!) Looked and sounded superb, Even the drapes and lighting in the hall made me suspend belief that it was really C Sharp!! It is ridiculous that Lal's concert isn't available on Freeview, after all, during Wimbledon, you can select all manner of courts too watch. Maybe, if we send messages to BBC4, they might do a re-run of the concert, after all, it's all on tape now, isn't it, therefore not much expense, except editing, so get writing (nicely!!!) Though as Jim M has pointed out, the whole fest will be available on the Web in due course (See link above) IIRC last year it stayed up for quite a while too. Ralphie Not as good quality, admittedly, but, it's something. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 26 Oct 07 - 03:01 AM Just had a look and highlights of Lals concert should be on line by 1800 today (UK Time Fri 26th Oct), and I think it'll be there for a week, so grab it while you can. Ralphie |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: GUEST,buspassed Date: 26 Oct 07 - 06:22 AM Thanks for the heads-up for that JM&R it's there with almost moving pictures! Not played it right through but it looks like the whole concert. It was a lovely night and I feel priviliged to have attended. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: Mrs.Duck Date: 26 Oct 07 - 06:33 AM Thanks for that, Ralphie and Jim for the link. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: KeithofChester Date: 26 Oct 07 - 07:18 AM I don't quite understand how these things can be available on digital and also not - freeview essentially IS BBC digital. Who exactly can see these things? (cable tv viewers and satellite I suppose but its a bit weird that there is a different feed to these from freeview) Jim, I think is is all to do with the fact that the Freeview platform is more constrained on space and hence more crowded than the other digital delivery routes. On Sky, the red button basically takes you to a menu with more options. It is the same reason that there are a lot more +1 channels on a Skybox than you get on Freeview. That it is the "folk" event that mysteriously gets squeezed out is of course typical. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 26 Oct 07 - 07:18 AM This from the Radio 2 Board (Just a heads-up that the Mike Harding Show will be broadcasting highlights from the Lal Prom on November 7th. Tune in then, folks!) And this.... (A version will be shown on BBC2 apparently but there is some question as to whether it will be available on Freeview. BBC4 may show it at a later date. As for a DVD, who knows, probably the stock response, "there's no demand for it".) Whether truth or wishful thinking on the latter quote, I know not!! Regards Ralphie |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: Mrs.Duck Date: 26 Oct 07 - 07:23 AM Just watched the first half online. Not quite such good quality as TV but still great. |
Subject: RE: BBC Electric Proms From: Mrs.Duck Date: 26 Oct 07 - 08:25 AM Second half even better - shame they cut it off before the enchore though! |
