Subject: Lyr Req: tea-drinking song (Hallelujah Rosalie)
From: Haruo
Date: 26 Oct 07 - 06:00 AM

At Mike Stern's concert last Saturday (at University Friends Meeting, Seattle, on behalf of FOR) they sang a song I had never heard before. It's about the wonders, joys and uses of tea (the beverage); they said it was from England. The chorus goes "Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, Rosalie!" (two or three times)... Neither within nor without Mudcat can I search out a trace of it.* Anybody know it? If so, please post lyrics (tune would be nice, too). Thanks,

Haruo

*closest Google gets me is this blog post, which despite the spot-on title is alas devoid of pertinent content

It's one of those things with a million spellings.

I think the title is "Have a Cuppa Tea". That will bring up many sites with the lyrics and http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:mlijUzlLUgUJ:kinks.it.rit.edu/discography/showsong.php%3Fsong%3D137+Have+a+cuppa+tea&hl=en&c has the chords as a link at the top left.

Two other songs are brought up with a DT search of

Have a cuppa tea

Well, it's not a folk song, but there's something about Kinks songs that seems to make them fit very well here at Mudcat.

Have A Cuppa Tea
Written by: Ray Davies
Published by: Davray Music Ltd.

Granny's always ravin' and rantin',
And she's always puffin' and pantin',
And she's always screaming and shouting,
And she's always brewing up tea.

Grandpappy's never late for his dinner,
Cos he loves his leg of beef
And he washes it down with a brandy,
And a fresh made pot of tea.

Chorus:
Have a cuppa tea, have a cuppa tea,
have a cuppa tea, have a cuppa tea,
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, Rosie Lea
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, Rosie Lea.

If you feel a bit under the weather,
If you feel a little bit peeved,
Take granny's stand-by potion
For any old cough or wheeze.
It's a cure for hepatitis, it's a cure for chronic insomnia,
It's a cure for tonsillitis and for water on the knee.

Chorus

Tea in the morning, tea in the evening, tea at supper time,
You get tea when it's raining, tea when it's snowing,
Tea when the weather's fine.
You get tea as a mid-day stimulant
You get tea with your afternoon tea
For any old ailment or disease
For Christ sake have a cuppa tea.

Chorus

Whatever the situation, whatever the race or creed,
Tea knows no segregation, no class nor pedigree
It knows no motivations, no sect or organisation,
It knows no one religion,
Nor political belief.

Chorus

Now, if I could only teach Peace to go to the original source instead of to the Google cache...

BUT, never in 346,792 years did I expect a Kinks' song to end up in the DT. NEVer.
