Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Oct 07 - 07:12 PM An idea of where they are based might help, not everyone has my faultless sense of direction or knowledge of geography. Also practice days or a link to their website if they have one. Just a couple of suggestions... LTS - Morris widow occasionally. |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Les in Chorlton Date: 30 Oct 07 - 04:08 AM Have Colne Royal always had a reputation for being one of the more "conservative" sides |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: GUEST,Neovo Date: 30 Oct 07 - 04:33 AM Colne Royal - not based in Colne by any chance? |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Oct 07 - 05:07 AM Probably, but where is Colne? A county or continent would help most folks. LTS |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Morticia Date: 30 Oct 07 - 05:12 AM There are 2 Colnes in the UK, so yes, it would prolly help people to know |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: johnadams Date: 30 Oct 07 - 05:19 AM Any one who's near enough to rehearse and dance with them will probably already know where it is. Anyway it's in Lancashire. I don't know about the side being 'conservative' but it has a fine and distinctive style which is a joy to watch when being danced well. The last time I saw it danced well (or at all for that matter) was at the millenium celebrations of the Bacup Britannia Coconut Dancers when all the members and former members gathered together from far flung corners and gave a showing to remember. I hope the tradition continues. |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Galoshin Date: 30 Oct 07 - 08:04 AM I suppose you would describe Colne as conservative. As t where they are based well, it should be Colne Lancashire but the Leader lives in Bury. Thanks John for the good wishes and everyone else who posted. Colne is in North east Lancashre, Liz and Morticia near Burnley Anyway, does anyone know of anyone who might be interested in joining. I have just come back to the side after 35 years so you see the problem. HELP |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Oct 07 - 11:47 AM Bit far to commute I'm afraid... LTS darn sarf in Lunnun. |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Les in Chorlton Date: 30 Oct 07 - 12:51 PM Liz am I missing some changes at CRM.....Men? |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Herga Kitty Date: 30 Oct 07 - 03:35 PM Colne Royal are a pretty traditional Ring side. When Ann Mettam started Poynton Jemmers she approached Julian Pilling for assistance in collecting info about North West dances, and got a very dusty answer. Good to see that Julian is still listed as the contact though. Kitty |

Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Les in Chorlton Date: 30 Oct 07 - 04:15 PM I guess we have just entered a minefield Liz |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: John J Date: 30 Oct 07 - 08:08 PM I seem to recall ads placed in folk mags rather forcefully pointing out to other sides that a certain dance (can't remember which one) belonged to Colne Royal and that other sides had no right to perform that dance. It was either Colne Royal Morris or Grimswitchdyke & District Fluffy Morris - can't remember which. JJ |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: Les in Chorlton Date: 31 Oct 07 - 03:48 AM I seem to remember a string of letters in English Dance and Song between Julian and a number of other people about whom should do what to Morris, perhaps it could be reprinted as a pamphlet? |
Subject: RE: Colne Royal Morris Men From: baldnavvy Date: 31 Oct 07 - 10:51 AM I'll do it if there are lots of practice sessions:-) Les and John J - Yes there was abit of acrimony but the side needs members to stay alive. Just as there is room for differences of opinion in all walks of life so there be in Morris. If anyone is interested the post here as Galoshin requested. Wincing Devil - in the case of North West Morris it is more likely to Jingle Boom. Clogs and all that. From what I have heard there is soon to be a web presence. |
