From: GUEST,Dáithí Ó Geanainn

An all-new Sunday afternoon session is to start at the Dog and Bone pub, John St, (Off Monks road) in Lincoln, - first one is this Sunday, November 4th - kicks off at 3pm.

We (Gone to the Dogs) played this place a couple of months ago - the managers are a lovely couple and the regulars very friendly - a real old fashioned community pub - with real ale, a lovely beer garden and a book exchange in the snug!

I guess most music will be Irish trad...but let's see who turns up - all welcome!

We're in Lincoln this weekend.....is the session just music or songs as well?

Is the pub child friendly?

....and I remember when the pub was called the Gay Dog!

Paul

The Gay Dog - what an image that conjures up!
Won't make it this time Daithi, more surgery coming up next week so I need time at home with Mrs. Johnny. But I'll come along when I'm up and strollin' again!
Best to you and Ian,
JB

Not sure if it's child-friendly Paul - I've never figured out English licensing laws! Why not give them a bell - they're a nice couple.

I'm sure singing would be welcome...especially if others might accompany on instruments..but come along and let's see!

Good to hear from you John - hope all goes well and it won't be too long till you're back on the circuit.
Thanks for the best wishes, Villan - please pass the word around - we really need a regular core of folks to make this viable. Already a few of the "Hoolies" should be there...I think John Fox is responsible for getting the thing off the ground...all they need is support!

oops..that last post was just me , responding to the oithers. No idea why me name didn't come up!
Serves me right for using the office machine, I guess!

Hope to see at least some familiar faces on Sunday, then...given that whenever I've discussed the live folk scene in Lincoln with anybody around the area they can't beleive there's no regular session of any sort in the city I'm hoping folks will lend their support.
These things don't happen if we don't make them.
It's a great little venue, nice friendly people and good music (cos you're making it, right?) - so a warm welcome to anybody who can come!

Daithi,

We will pop in for an hour or so on the way back from my mother's (in Lincoln) to North Yorks.

As we have a car full of kids, dogs, air beds etc etc, Wendy asks if there is a guitar that she could borrow so that she can sing a couple of songs rather than her having to bring her own?

I guess I'll have to bring the banjo as I can't imagine anyone (sane?) would happen to have a 5 stringer to hand.

Looking forward to it.....I used to drink in the Dog & Bone (when it was the Gay Dog) pretty regularly back in the day.

Paul

Hi Paul - I'm sure there will be more than the odd guitar available, so it would be lovley to hear herself.

Ctch up with you then!

...and it was good, apparently going to be run monthly on the first Sunday afternoon of the month.

We'll be back next time we are in Lincoln.

Thanks Daithi, Cockles & Muscles is so much more evocative in Gaelic, nice one!

Paul

Glad you enjoyed it Paul - Molly Malone was written in English, so it's a bit of a novelty piece for me to sing it in Irish..but makes a change from all the old ones we were taught at school!

Big thanks to all the others who supported this new session at the Dog and Bone in Lincoln which, as Paul says, will be held on the first Sunday of each month from 3pm.

Good to see another couple of Mudcatters there too - Pete and Helen played American Old Time and a bit of Blues; also Wendy (Wow..what a beautiful voice!)sang some Scottich traditional and her own compositions -I'd have paid good money to be at any gig she is singing at, with Paul ably annoying her on the banjo!!
And somebody else (Stephen???) sang English shanties - and played a very excellent Bodhrán and Bones(as did Lois).
We had Irish reels, jigs and airs from Brian, John , Mick and meself and the whole thing was the very best way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Big thanks to you all - hope to see you -and others - next month!

Thanks for your kind words, Daithi.

We had a great afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the "craic". It was lovely to have a session that had a good mixture of musicians and singers rather than just one or the other.

Hope it continues to go from strength to strength and we'll definitely aim to be there again when we are in Lincoln visiting the mother-in-law.

Thanks to all at the Dog and Bone for putting it on.
Wendy
