Is "Welsh Folk Customs" by Trefor M. Owen (1978) the best account of said customs or have other books been published since that might offer more information?

cheers

The Mari Lwyd was in my dream last night after watching a video of the old C4 'Future of Things Past' documentary to put me in the mood for Hallowe'en. The footage I link to here seems a bit contrived compared to that of Doc Rowe used on the programme, but it still lifts my weary old heart to see it.

You could try pm ing Dr Price. He's a 'recognised authority' on welsh folk customs.

In terms of books, the Trevor Owen one is still the best and most thorough overview. (Someone borrowed mine and didn't return it ... and I think it's out of print now.) There are other books which discuss individual customs, or overviews of specific localities, but can't think of anything comprehensive. And, of course, quite a few of them are in Welsh, so TO's is still the best for the English language market.

Seems to me that there's a 'full' version and a 'condensed' version.

You looking for anything in particular?

sian

No, I bought it about 25 years ago and I was fascinated by it. I came across it again and have just started re-reading it. I guess I would be most interested in books of Welsh folk dance tunes.
