Subject: Chords Add: SUMMER OF '46 (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Mbo Date: 25 Jan 00 - 09:11 AM Wow, here an old post I can help with! THE SUMMER OF '46 (Robin Laing) D.................Bm........G............D. The summer was a long one, always on the run G...................Bm..........G................A Moving through the moonlit night, resting in the sun D......................Bm................G..................D They say that you were cheerful, like a child in chasing play ......G.................D...............G......A...........D Or a gambler guessing recklessly when someone else will pay Through the western highlands, round the western isles An adventure trail through beauty over countless weary miles Slipping like a shadow into legend out of chance Watching for the tall, ghostly sailing ships from France Chorus: D.............................G..............D We are all "Young Pretenders" looking for a sign G..............D....................Bm..............A On a troubled journey through the landscape of the mind D............................G...............D We're looking to the future, trying hard to find .....G................D..............A...............D The pathway and the promise and the hope of better times They say that you were happy, always keen to take a dram A bottle the companion always nearest to your hand Perhaps to dull the memory or take away the sound The cries of young men dying on the blood stained ground That summer must have changed you in fundamental ways And formed the pattern and the script for your remaining days Some men are most attracted to a cause that can't be won Life has many flickering ghosts to make us hide and run Chorus --Mbo |

Subject: RE: Chords Req: Summer of '46 (Robin Laing) From: GUEST,Rocco Date: 27 Jan 11 - 04:36 PM I suppose you'll never read this post, you were writing 12 years ago... but I wanted to thank you. I'm italian, and I've always been playing this song, but I didn't get every single word, although my english is quite good - not my scottish, alas! This is one of my all time favourite songs. I've been looking for this lyrics for 12 years, and today reading them is like hearing this song for the first time. I'm lucky, I had the chance to feel this marvel twice. Thank you, I hope your life is prosper and your guitar always twanging near your heart. |

Heard the song about 10 years ago, didn't know it's name, but it had stayed with me. Today I thought about it & did a search to try & find the artist & the lyrics! 365 years this year. I'm Australian but ancestors through my maternal grandfather (from Skye) are said to have fought in the uprising. |
