Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Linda Goodman Zebooker Date: 17 Nov 07 - 07:41 AM Drat, I missed that schedule for Katlaughing going around to be signed. Here's a virtual signature! Looking forward to seeing you at the Getaway next year. Linda Goodman (Somebody else's Secret Santa |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: katlaughing Date: 16 Nov 07 - 12:06 AM Thanks, Santa! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Janie Date: 16 Nov 07 - 12:02 AM All Getaway hugs forwarded to Dani through me were delivered tonight. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: GUEST,Katlaughing's Secret Santa Date: 15 Nov 07 - 11:35 PM Dear Kat, Your secret Santa is not Linda anyone. (Nor, indeed, is your Secret Santa in any way connected to the signature to which you refer.) But, as you have discovered, your Secret Santa WAS at the Getaway. Hee, hee! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Janie Date: 15 Nov 07 - 07:35 PM I'm reminded of the first line of that last song on the last Little Feat LP - the only cut that was sans Lowell George. Can't remember if the title of the cut was "Linda Lou" or "Down on the Farm" They all asked about you down on the farm The hogs asked, the pigs asked, the horses asked too |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: katlaughing Date: 15 Nov 07 - 07:26 PM Oh, and one more thing: my sheet of autographs had a name/signature then a little ways over "Your Secret Santa." At first I though my SS had signed their real name, but now that I look at it, I think they may be two separate signatures, BUT I cannot read the first one completely. It looks like "Linda Lonane?" The only Linda I know of is Linda Goodman and it definitely doesn't look like "Goodman," so any of you have any clues without giving away my SS? Oh, it might not be "Linda" it could be "Linder?" Help!**bg** katlaughing&grinning |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Lonesome EJ Date: 13 Nov 07 - 06:11 PM Some other very wise individual said simply "be here now." |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Tinker Date: 13 Nov 07 - 01:23 PM Ummmmm... that translates to my being able to be in all times and all places at the same time ??? Then it might solve my Getaway problem. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Bill D Date: 13 Nov 07 - 10:30 AM Obscure metaphysics? Sure here you go 'Pataphysics. (Google for LOTS more) "..the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments" (Gestes et opinions du Docteur Faustroll, II, viii). Raymond Queneau has described 'pataphysics as resting "on the truth of contradictions and exceptions." from memory: (I once owned a copy of :"The Evergreen Review", in which 'Pataphysic was introduced to the West) "Pataphysics lies as far beyond metaphysics as metaphysics does beyond physics...in one direction or another." |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Amos Date: 13 Nov 07 - 10:10 AM Makes perfect sense to me. I am kicking myself at some of the things I missed, and ALSO wishing the things I did do lasted longer. This time thing is a real SOB, huh? I request Bill D to come up with some obscure metaphysics to enable us to hop parallel universes and thus achieve multiple exposures in the time stream simultaneously. A. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Bill D Date: 12 Nov 07 - 10:09 PM All I can say, Janie, is...wait till you've been to 20-30 of 'em. Then you REALLY feel the frustration of knowing what you have missed, and you have this LONG list of people you needed to spend more time with.....but with practice, you get a wee bit better at planning and juggling to minimize the pain of too much overlapping pleasure. That make any sense? If it does, YOU are a true Getaway junkie.....and there's no cure. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: katlaughing Date: 12 Nov 07 - 09:23 PM Ah, remember what Art says, though, "If it wasn't for Time we'd have to do everything at once!" |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Tinker Date: 12 Nov 07 - 08:05 PM Janie, perhaps when we get that cloning workshp up and running we can get a subset for "paycheck clones" I'm sure we could then find the right song so that time would cooperate and we could all stay until we ran out of things to say. I'm glad we we're roomies and could talk in our sleep our we would have had to carve things even closer to the bone... Ahhh for next year |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Leadfingers Date: 12 Nov 07 - 07:43 PM Janie - Thats the way it goes !! Come over to UK and do it properly for a couple of weeks next year ! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Janie Date: 12 Nov 07 - 07:38 PM My only compaint (other than the food) is this: The more Getaways I attend, the more people I get to know. The more people I get to know, the more people I look forward to seeing, talking with, catching up with, getting to know better, etc. The more people I want to connect with, the less time there is to connect with everyone I want to connect with. There were way too many people i wanted to sit down with that all I got to do was give them a hug at registration, then smile with delight as they shared their songs in workshops and song circles. Could we make it a month long next time? Janie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: GUEST,Lorraine Date: 12 Nov 07 - 07:28 PM Yes Yes Yes. It was a good! good! getaway. The mummers play was just lovely and hilarious. Dennis seems to be a natural adlibber. Sitting up late with Rita, Sandy, Joe and Karen was lovely (thanks Rita for dragging me in.) Ken and Barry have such a wonderful chemistry they light up the place. Hearing George and Mary's mini concert was a joyful event. Mining songs had wonderful contributions Oh shoot it was a good good getaway. Hearing John Roberts as he and Judy Cook did the signing(?) to fathom the bowl was another joyful situation. I must confess to enjoying Kendalls coat very very much but he threatened the pants next year- a scary thought. Sigh. Wish I could have stayed up later next year for sure. Thanks all for a wonderful Getaway. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Fortunato Date: 11 Nov 07 - 08:52 PM Janie, Susette and I are glad for the pictures, thanks, give Dani a hug for us. cheers, chance |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Amos Date: 11 Nov 07 - 03:15 PM Thanks for that!! You should know that you can use iPhoto and from a given collection of photos, create and upload a web page of photos in seconds. Here is an example that BBW made in a few minutes. This method requires a .mac account which is a nice thing to have. Another way you can do it is to generate the web page and then FTP it to any place you have web-server space. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Janie Date: 11 Nov 07 - 03:09 PM You shoulda seen it before I eliminated the demon red eyes! |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: katlaughing Date: 10 Nov 07 - 09:20 PM I got a little package in the mail today from Micca with a New Joisey address! What did I find but a beautiful pendant of a Siamese cat with a perfect teeny mouse on the other side. I *think* it is one of Rita's creations which I have heard so much about from Spaw. I LOVE it. AND there was a folded up map or somesuch from the Getaway the backside of which had some wonderful written and autographed well wishes for me from several Mudcatters in attendance. THANKS TO YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH! There's something about actually seeing someone's wishes written out and signed, something one may actually hold in their hand, that brings out so much delight and warmth in one's heart. THAT is a keeper and a treasure and you all are one bunch of beautiful people. Thank you just isn't enough. I've told Rog my wages form my new job go right into a saving fund for the Getaway. I am going to be there next year. Thanks, again, kat |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Amos Date: 10 Nov 07 - 02:59 PM Ron, Thanks for the kind words. By breakfast the following morning I not only could not remember any of those verses, I had to take others' words for it I had actually done such a thing. Not that it's out of character -- just that the whole evening had been stolen by Lethe!! :D A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Ron Davies Date: 10 Nov 07 - 12:23 PM I'd just like to put in my 2 cents about high points. Aside from getting my Jan to sing a duet with me at mikes, which she says she hasn't done ever before--"Cicadas" wasn't really singing, I'll have to admit--2 highlights stand out. 1) As others have mentioned, "Kendall Morse and the Kitchen" at the humorous songs workshop--just an absolutely magnificent parody. Proving that Sinsull is a wonderful wordsmith, Gordon Bok has a great sense of humor, and Kendall is a great sport. (Not that any of that was in doubt.) Just too bad it wasn't recorded for posterity--and YouTube. 2) Ironman Amos, having just flown out from the left coast--analogous to flying to the UK, which always knocks me out for 2 or 3 days--at about 2 AM Saturday, making up spontaneous--and good--blues verses about lighthouses--complete with double entendres. And Joe gamely smiling. And I'm sure there are lots of other highlights I've left out. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Bill D Date: 10 Nov 07 - 10:44 AM Roger found us when we were still at Camp Letts, before even Ramblewood, and has contributed many wonderful (and strange) bits of song ever since. He has a real ear for the 'different'...as well as classic music. (yeah, I begged him to do "You Don't Even Care" one more time, as there were folks who hadn't had the experience yet.) Hope Marge will get back next time. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Janie Date: 09 Nov 07 - 10:49 PM A quinsential Getaway image for me is of Roger, always in a corner, in a late night song circle, leaned back, holding that guitar neck up high like he does, making his excellent music. Missed having Marge there, but was awful glad to see you show up, Rog. Janie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 09 Nov 07 - 02:34 PM Bill D. Darriel asked for the words to Breakfast Blues. Tell him they are in the DT. I spent the month prior to the Getaway in a training program. I thought I would just pick myself up from Richmond, VA and fly to the Getaway on Friday evening. I was too beat to do it. Marge couldn't come this year, so I hung around home for awhile and didn't get there until 3:30 PM Saturday. I regretted missing so much. I had a regular good time. It was a small but pleasant group at the Peace Lodge sing on Saturday night, but the quality was excellent, esp. LEJ's "Key to the Highway". I went back there Sunday night and started out playing to myself. Then the new lady from the reservation (Priscilla maybe?). Came in. She listened for a while and then a group migrated from another sing and another fine time occurred. Priscilla was one of those "I never sing in public" people who tried on her wings and sang very well. Weatherwise, we missed the hurricane that came up the coast and had warm, balmy days and cool nights. The water was like glass Sunday morning. It is a beautiful location! Although I now live in Virginia, I think I will continue as Roger in Baltimore until I get another inspiration. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: catspaw49 Date: 08 Nov 07 - 10:08 PM Big and Brassy? Well hell Amos, so was Ethel Waters. You can't equate large genitalia with the Blues. If you do, I'm going to make you go post on all of those racial threads we seem to have running..... Spaw |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: TRUBRIT Date: 08 Nov 07 - 10:07 PM Actually - I think a high point for me was blasting out Jerusalem as the Mummers exited (incluing me - the Queen - or Princess - of Egypt......) .. love that hymn - always have and always will ---- and to see others (John Robertts for starters ) singling along -- well it was GREAT.... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Tinker Date: 08 Nov 07 - 10:05 PM Roger's promised me a new slide trombone blues... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: Amos Date: 08 Nov 07 - 09:40 PM I think you're projecting again, Spaw. If you had heard Lonesome belt out the blues, you'da never had such unmagnitudinous thoughts about him. Da boy is big and brassy, dude... A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2007 From: catspaw49 Date: 08 Nov 07 - 05:55 PM AHEM...Much as I am enjoying the read along here, the, uh, accumpucky is getting DEEP!!! Johnny Wad Model my ass.......... Somehow I think that rather than the Chromatic, Leej could probably use this model to adequately cover his 3 piece set and still have an overlap. Spaw |
