Subject: Review: Alcester Folk Festival needs your help.
From: Green Man
Date: 05 Nov 07 - 09:05 AM

Greetings,

As all us Brits know, last years festival season was more of a monsoon than a summer idyll. The wet caused punters to stay away in droves and consequently our finances took a beating. I know that several festivals are in the same boat (geddit?) and, some alas are not going to run in 08 because of it.

We need more cash so we are holding an extra event. It will be at the Grieg Centre in Alcester just like the main festival. The difference is that there will be indoor camping at the sports hall opposite the festival site (with showers and toilets) and there will be limited space for camper-vans and caravans.

Here is a link Alcester Folk Festival

Some of you will notice a change in the link, this is because we are a not for profit ORG. all monies are reinvested in the festival. Of course this year it means that little money will be invested unless we can GET SOME!

That's where you come in. Come to the weekend, buy a ticket, or come and perform for those who buy tickets.

Contact details will be on the new website probably tonight or Tuesday night. Help in any form will be appreciated.

Have a good week.

Green Man

Although the Alcester Folk Festival in June is renowned for numerous free fringe events, the mini-festival in February is basically a fund-raising event to ensure the future of June festivals. Therefore I don't imagine that the committee will be giving much (if any) priority to events that do not contribute financially.

However, if anyone would like to put in a tender for a singaround franchise, I'm sure we'd look carefully at the highest bid! :-))

And there's me, thinking, well Dave's kindly booked me at the club, so why don't I chip in with a spot at the A&A fundraiser. So I goes looking in the diary to see what I'm doing that weekend...

Doh! Playing Dave's club!

(And I'm at Shammic on the Sat which rather rules out a daytime spot as it's a fair drive... unless you'd like to reschedule the BTMC gig, Dave)?

We are aware that it clashes with several "can't miss" folk events, and in an ideal world we might have chosen a different date. (In a really ideal world we wouldn't have needed to hold the fundraising event anyway!)

Unfortunately that weekend was the only time that the venue was available, and beggars can't be choosers.

Hope it goes well in my absence!

I, for one, intend to come and do a spot, indeed several spots. Marje and Dave have always been good friends of mine, and I just could not turn away and see Alcester Festival die. Remember when I was recovering from a major stroke, Dave, and you still booked me? I shall always be grateful to you for that. please pm me - I'm sure we can work something out.

Sadly I'm afraid we won't get along due to dates clashing, though I would encourage anyone who can to go along and support this event. Alcester is a wonderful festival which we really can't afford to lose!

We played as a family at this festival last year.It was a lovely experience. Stuart and I would be delighted to perform at the weekend if that will help. Kathryn has a german exchange trip at some stage ,and we don't have a date yet,but we know it is round about then.If the girls are free I'm sure they would love to help too.

You're right Anne, we weren't at all happy about missing Reunion, but felt that supporting Alcester was the right thing to do this year after the all the weather problems last year. We had to think long & hard, it's such a difficult clash. Please pass Hugs to all the Middle Bar Singers for me!!

Alcester is always worth supporting as it is one of the affordable Festivals,Family friendly, kids are free and tickets are cheap.
In my view it is what Folk music is about inclusive.
Dave and his gallant crew do a great job.
There is a good line up and we are all doing it for free to help make sure that this Festival stays alive and kicking.
So, come on me ducks(this a term of friendship and nothing to do with wet weather) and get behind this fundraiser

There's a question I hadn't though of: Are we all turning up in our caravans during the day on the Friday? Is it OK to do so? And if so, what's everyone planning on doing during the evening? Must admit I hadn't realised that the Friday evening wasn't programmed!
