Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 21 Apr 08 - 01:46 PM Hi Al - would be great to have you and your concertina along for a session! The URL for the fox and hounds folk club is: www.myspace.com/foxandhoundsfolk For some reason when you use the "make a link" function on this forum, it sticks "www.mudcat.org" before the URL, which results in a dead link! Never mind, you can copy and paste the above link into your browser and it should work fine. (I continue to be disappointed by the anti-Josh Ritter prejudice that seems be displayed by certain regulars at the Fox and Hounds! ;-) ) Look forward to seeing you all tonight - and just a quick reminder that we have the amazing Pete Bruntell (http://www.myspace.com/peterbruntnell) playing a the F&H on the 28th April (i.e. next week). He really is a superb songwriter, so if you're free then come on down - and if you're not, then cancel your plans and come anyways! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 17 Apr 08 - 08:02 PM Hi Al. Try going to it from my website www.orpingtonfridayfolk.bravehost.com. This thread is updated either by Chris or me on a regular basis. Suggest you trace it. Sue |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Alan Day Date: 17 Apr 08 - 05:48 PM Your club is not a million miles away from me,I will try and bring my concertina along for a play, if allowed. Your link does not appear to be working. Al |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 16 Apr 08 - 06:39 PM Another fantastic night at The Fox and Hounds. Afraid the Josh Ritter songs were back, but one can't have everything. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 14 Apr 08 - 05:47 AM Our all-acoustic candlelit session was definitely unexpected but great fun! No Josh Ritter songs, honest (although I did play a Springsteen song that Josh has covered...but I'm sure that doesn't count! ;-) ). Looking forward to Fiddlefit (and some electricity!) tonight - see you all later Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 08 Apr 08 - 02:39 PM Hi everyone. Well, last night was an experience! Two minutes before we arrived a power cut happened. Undaunted, we had a candle-lit sing around. Quite a good attendance, and Chris kept his word - no Josh Ritter songs! ( but how do we know he hadn't said they were by someone else? ) He turned up with his keyboard, but thankfully, there is a rather good piano in the pub. The guests next week, by public demand are Fiddlefit, so we hope you all come along, and welcome new members too. Bring candles, just incase. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 04 Apr 08 - 07:07 AM Hi everyone, By all accounts Roger and Pete's gig was another superb night, with some excellent floor spots (I'm afraid I missed it, as I managed to acquire tickets for Josh Ritter's london show at the last minute...yes, I am a shameless groupie...). In order to make amends, I will refrain from playing ANY josh ritter songs this monday. Honest. This monday (7th April) we have the open mic night, so please feel free to come along and join in! The following week (14th April) we have come full circle with the welcome return of Fiddlefit - an excellent guitar/fiddle duo, and the first act that we ever showcased at the fox and hounds folk club. People have been clamouring for us to book them again ever since their inaugural perfomance at the F+H, and, as always, we live to serve. After the fiddlefit gig we have another open mic night on the 21st, and then Pete Bruntell joining us for a gig on the 28th. We're all massively excited about having Pete coming to play for us as he is a superb and highly regarded songwriter and performer. http://www.peterbruntnell.com Have a good weekend, and hope to see you all on monday! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 25 Mar 08 - 09:33 PM Hi. Since meeting Alquimia and Mark last Friday, and suggesting they come to F and H, they whisked us off to Cecil Sharp House tonight. Our two songs were well received. We're all off to Folkmob tomorrow if we still have any energy. See you next week. h |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,Jazzy Date: 25 Mar 08 - 05:38 AM Wow - what can I say? An amazing gig last night, and some absolutely brilliant floor spots from both new and old friends. Thanks to all for coming along and making it a really memorable evening! Next week another treat for you - Roger Hubbard and Pete Shaw, lovely guitar/double bass duo playing both originals and old favourites, plus an assortment of floor spots. For more info on Roger and his music check out http://www.rogerhubbard.co.uk/ Hope to see you all soon! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 23 Mar 08 - 04:37 PM We had a great turnout on Friday, think some of them will be coming to Fox and Hounds tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST Date: 20 Mar 08 - 06:16 PM Sorry for missing monday's open session - I'm afraid I was swotting away as I had a med school interview first thing wednesday morning and had to drive up tuesday night! Hope it was a good'un, and look forward to seeing you all on monday for Jack McNeill and Charlie Heys, who will be fresh from playing at the Gosport Festival alongside Show of Hands, Flook, Oysterband, Wheeler Street and a whole bunch of other great acts (http://www.gosportfestival.co.uk/). Cheers! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 18 Mar 08 - 10:30 AM Another good evening. Not too many of us because it was Paddy's Night. It was good to see Wysiwyg again. We are on next week and it's a guest night. See Jazzy's earlier posting for details. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 13 Mar 08 - 10:16 AM He was singing the Hopalong Cassidy theme at me. I'd forgotten it, for our younger readers Hopalong preceded Chester by about a decade having been on tv in the 50s |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Richard Bridge Date: 12 Mar 08 - 06:50 PM The cast is off. He is still well adapted to play Chester in Marshall Dillon. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: billybob Date: 12 Mar 08 - 12:22 PM Skinners Rats... is Peter's leg better? Wendy |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Richard Bridge Date: 12 Mar 08 - 12:17 PM Take one or two (or formerly three) Skinny Rats, and add beer. The evening may well continue... My spies say they were welcomed to the F&H "for the first time". My other spies tell me that they have probably played there literally hundreds of times since the early 70s. But it was the first time for this folk club. What do you call a Skinny Rat in a suit? The accused! (it used to be one of their jokes) |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST Date: 12 Mar 08 - 11:00 AM What a great night - Skinner's rats were superb, and there were some great floor spots too! A bit of a late finish, but that's what it's all about :-) Open mic this coming monday (17th), and then the excellent Jack McNeill and Charlie Heys the following monday (24th) - make sure to catch these guys as they're based up in birmingham/carlisle and don't venture down this way very often! You can have a listen to them here: http://www.myspace.com/jackmcneillandcharlieheys Or hear them playing in the finals of the BBC young folk awards here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/events/youngfolkaward2008/finalists.shtml Cheers! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 10 Mar 08 - 10:09 AM Refreshing - for anyone looking for somewhere to go tonight. The infamous Kent band Ye Skinners Rats are at F and H tonight. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 09 Mar 08 - 04:07 PM Sorry to miss you all last week, and looking forward to seeing Skinner's Rats and your good selves tomorrow night! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 04 Mar 08 - 01:36 PM Unfortunately Ty was indisposed last night, but we had a fine singaround with Don, Ian and Dave, Grant, Sue, Lindsay and Chris. Got through a lot of songs. Looking forward to Skinners Rats next week. Had a listen to 2Bs and S. They'll be good. Sue |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 03 Mar 08 - 06:02 AM Hi Don - great, unfortunately I can't be there tonight (I have a gig elsewhere, d'oh!), but please do come along and play - you'll be made more than welcome by Ty and our regulars! Stallion - thanks for the heads up, I'll have a listen to 2BS&S when I get the chance (unfortunately I'm at work at the moment so can't!) Chris |

Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 29 Feb 08 - 06:30 PM Hi Chris, Thinking about bringing self and guitar up there next Monday, after work. Don T. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 27 Feb 08 - 09:02 PM That's what it's all about Chris. It's even more rewarding when the acts you like are the ones that the punters like too. I've been running Friday Folk for 20 years now, some years have been better than others, but I think 2008 is going to be the best yet! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 25 Feb 08 - 08:34 AM Definitely - it's nice to get a mix of old favourites and new talent (and I love the fact that running the club means we can book people that we personally want to see too!). Hope to see you (and anyone else who fancies it!) at the open mic session tonight! Chris |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: Girl Friday Date: 24 Feb 08 - 10:44 PM Excellent stuff Chris. Some more new names to me at least. Throwing in a few well known names mixed in with new ones works well.I'm as guilty as the next person when it comes to putting myself out to go to see new people, so having them come to me at one of my favourite clubs is a big plus. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,jazzy Date: 20 Feb 08 - 04:15 AM Thanks Sue - they are a great duo, and it was lovely to see them in action! Subject: Fox and Hounds Folk Club, Kent From: GUEST,Jazzy Date: 10 Nov 07 - 07:28 PM Hi All, Seeing as there appears to be so many folkies on here, I just wanted to let you all know about the folk club I help to run. It's based in the Fox and Hounds pub, Kent - near the villages of Eynsford and Shoreham, or for non-locals, about 10 minutes drive away from J3 of the M25. It's been running for nearly 6 months, and we've had some great acts on including Fiddlefit, Danny Kyle, Pigs Ear, Tone Deaf Leopard, The Dealers, Missouri Gutts, Ian Petrie, Steve Simpson and Eddie Armer to name but a few (and apologies if I've missed anyone!). The club runs every Monday night, with open mic ever fortnight (although there are always a few floor spots on 'gig' nights too). For more info, check out www.myspace.com/foxandhoundsfolk Hope to see you soon, Chris |
