Wish I could be there. --- And I'm glad it'll be inside!!!!! At first I was picturing the outdoor stage where I did a concert for the N.Y. Pinewoods Club a couple of decades ago.

Barry, your thread title is a bit misleading. I thought this was an old thread about a concert from February 12, 2007.

2/12/07 - That's the date - OK, I admit that for some reason unknown to me Barry is using English notation for the date, despite the fact that he's an American and the concert is in America. Perhaps he's aiming thiis whole thread at you, hoping you'll come down to the city - and maybe even give him a ride down.    :-0

NYC - Yes, New York City, that's where South St. Seaport is.

But I still don't understand your confusion over the title (unless it's the date) -------- but then we all know Barry's dyslexic...................................

This gig is such a challenge. Here we are in Australia and we haven't a clue what day it is or even what year. But we certainly encourage 8 million or so New Yorkers to attend this gig! It's an experience not to be missed.

WOW Anglo.....touche' and a point for you. Finn is now bleeding from a quick flick of the computer stroke. Very nice.....Finn did pretty good last evening while reading and singing a chantey from an e Bay purchase. He just was concerned about some tall person trying to see over his shoulder(wasn't hard to do). Did a nice job even with the added pressure. Nice to see Barry in good form...what a treat. This should be a fun gig for all to see. They did really well in Portsmouth this year. Good Lord, he even found his way out the door last night at Cameron's.
There is...................................only one!!!!
Would love to make the trip, but other things are already in place.
See you in Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon....and bring a tourniquet!!!

For those that can't attend, I'm gonna attempt a U-Tube showing of some of this, if I can buy a camcorder in time (the easy part) & then try to attempt to navigate the complexiies of cyberspace (the hard part) & get what I can out ther. But I'll 1st have to figure out how to operate the dam photo equiptment (the hardest part).
Hopefully we can give all hat can't make it a good showing.

I'll try to get all the lesdysic stuff worked out before hand.

I do hope you and Neil are planning to stay over for the night, rather than try to drive back after you sing. Not only would that be rude to the gentle NYC folks who will want to provide you additional hospitality, but it's really dangerous to push yourselves so hard at your advanced age.

I know that New Yorkers have a reputation for not being concerned about the outside universe unless they are trying to publicize one of their activities but some of us would really like to know that Barry and Neil arrived at South Street, were warmly welcomed, sang well, and were successfully discouraged from driving back home in a blizzard.

We did in fact aarrive safe & early & were warmly welcomed (even though we did bring the wild weather with us) by the New York Packet who put on a great 1 set. Niel & I had a blast, what a enjoyable & entertaining crowd, that loves to sing, they were the treat. It was so nice to perform for this New York crowd who stood so close beside me when I was so sick, it was an honor to perform for them. Afterwards a bunch of us retired to a local waterhole to eat, sing & chat. We did drive back last night, what a nightmare with the iced up roads, slow going but we're safe home at last.

Charlie, it wasn't 21 hrs in the wind & driving snow, it was 'awake' no mean feat for us spry youngsters.

As for Neil getting to the Press Room, I'm surprized & happy to see him here but here's not a 3 hr drive away (one way).

It sounds doable. My semester is over as of last evening, so I will be trying to make as many sessions as I can. I will write down the 15th. Perhaps my Finnland pal will grant me access to his couch again. The CD sounds like it is right up my alley. Charley, there was a song of yours that you wanted us to do. What is it again? Finn and Haddie were great. A bunch of songs I had never heard before. Have to get a hold of Venezuala to Trinidad, a terrific song, is it printed or recorded anywhere ? Barry, Neil and crew consumed about 40 pounds of well fried health food at our local tavern, so were in good shape for the journey home.
Interested to learn more about the Pressroom.

Hi David, et al. We have a monthly shanty/forebitter session at the Press Room n Portsmouth NH on the third Saturday of the month, every month, from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. The next one will be on 15 December. I'll be posting details here on Mudcat this weekend.

We'll be delighted to see you again at the Press Room. We can compare our versions of the Bumboat Song. We do use the same chorus.

And I think it's "Mid-Watches" that you're found of, unless it was "Sea Dreams"? They're both on my website as MP3 files; all you got to do is search for "Charlie Ipcar" whomever he be.

Burt Franklin Jenness, by the way, turns out to have been a medical officier in the U.S. Navy in World War 1, rather than a sailor. I'm not surprised but a little disappointed.

The Seamen's Church is at South Street Sea Port on Water Street in NYC, probably close to where you and Barry were singing. There's a monthly Saturday sea music session there that I usually attend once or twice a year. Looks as if I won't be going down there until the spring, but if you're interested I would welcome company and there is plenty of space to stay over for a night with my family in Brooklyn, and then there are the Long Island folks that we could visit in Bellport on Sunday. Barry could tell you all about them. Nice folks!
