Subject: Lyr Add: ONE MORE FALL (Garrison Keillor)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 13 Nov 07 - 11:27 PM

Copied from the link Kat provided above--but I also listened to the recording and made a few corrections.

ONE MORE FALL
(Garrison Keillor?*)

One more fall in Minnesota
To come upon Lake Wobegon.
Old town, I smell the coffee.
If I could see you one more time.
That long, long time is always on my mind.
I'm just a stranger with memories of days of long ago.
Could it have been forty years since then?
What happened to us? I'd like to know.

One more fall in Minneapolis
I'll walk around Calhoun with you,
The sailboats gone and the beach deserted,
But still your love keeps shining true.
Along Lake Street, a cafe we used to meet,
And we talked about the books that we would write someday.
I missed you, friend, so I came back again.
This is my home. There's nothing more to say.

When I was ten, I came down Hennepin
To escape from swimming at the YMCA.
I turned my head toward the library instead,
A turn I took, oh, that led me to this day.

One more time, this dance together,
Just you and I, now don't be shy.
This time, I know I'll hear the music
If you would hold me one more time.
I love the gray of a November day
And the lighted windows, the trees all brown and bare,
The smell of cold, it warms my northern soul,
And the smell of apples and smoke in the air.

One more fall in Minnesota
To come upon Lake Wobegon.
Old town, I hear the music,
If I could see you one more time.
If I could see you one more time.

[*Unless, of course, it was written by one of the other frequently credited writers: Sarah Bellum, Paige Turner, etc.]

That's it, Kat. When I went to the website earlier today, 11/3 was the last show I could find.

It was really lovely and I want to learn it. (Although I will probably keep it under my hat.   The world may not be ready to hear a hillbilly accent with more than a little southern drawl sing a line about 'my northern soul':?)

Thankee Dear One.

Garrison Keller sang a song this week (11/10) about fall in Minnesota that I just loved. it was called something like "In the Late Fall" or "In the Late Autumn." I suppose I could wait until this week's show is archived to get the correct name and track down lyrics if they are on-line, but I liked it so well, I just can't wait.

Anybody hear it or know the song?

Thanks.

Janie
