Does anyone have the lyrics to Barry Dransfield's 'Wings of the Sphinx?' I'm trying to buy a copy of his 1996 album of the same name, but in the meantime.....

Have you been to Barry's website? www.barrydransfield.com

I have these words but am not sure if he'd want me to post them or not. I have to email him about something else anyway so I'll ask. In the meantime, try getting onto him via his website. It's a great song -

Yes, Bonnie, I have and there's an mp3 clip of him singing it there but only one verse and the chorus. Like you I think it's a great song, both musically and lyrically.

Thanks Bonnie. I've e-mailed Rhiannon Records to ask if the CD is still available, but I'm an impatient little soul and would like to be able to play and sing more than one verse!

Barry bought the rights to his Rhiannon albums, so (unless there's been some change of events in the meantime) you can get it directly from him. Zap him an E and see -

Terry - I purchased my copy of Wings of the Sphinx direct from Barry just after his "Unruly" CD came out, via his website. Don't know if he's still got them up for sale on there at the moment?

I've e-mailed both Barry and Rhiannon Records but I've not had a reply yet. Neither web-site looks particulary active - the Rhiannon one makes no reference to any album produced in this century!

I've only just written him so no reply yet - used his website email but if that's down I can try an alternative one or phone. Will post the lyrics here if Barry has no objection.

Terry, can you either join Mudcat (you don't have to use your real name onscreen) and PM me, or email me at [my name, above, without the space] [at] gmail [dot] com

I don't have any particular agenda in asking you to do this, just that it would be good to have a way of contacting you without dragging up this thread all the time. Thanks!

Bonnie

I can't see why he would object - the lyrics are printed in the booklet accompanying the CD. Evidently, it is not an original Barry Dransfield composition but an adaptation of a poem given to him in the 70s by a Carol Morrison from Leeds.

He is a friend, and as such I wouldn't like to presume without asking him. It's only an ADAPTATION of a poem (as he says himself in his record notes) and without seeing the original we don't know how much of Barry's own creative work went into it. What I do know is that it's copyright material. Also he's quite a private person and there might be some reason why he doesn't want his words posted publicly, independent of the CD.

Indeed he might not mind at all, but I can't be sure; and if I get it wrong, I'm going to get it wrong on the side of caution (and manners). If someone else wants to post the words, I'm not stopping them.

I heard from Rhiannon Records this morning that they still have 15 copies of Barry's album - I shall be ordering one today, so there are (obviously) 14 left if anyone wants one.
