Bridge, Ted Brewer - really good instruments. Carlo Giordano are cheaper instruments, available in the UK though I don't know where the company is based, good value for the money, though obviously not like the Bridge or Brewer fiddles.

Shetland was mortgaged to Scotland by the Danes as a dowry back in the 1400's and Scotland won't let them redeem the mortgage. Perfidious Alba! There is definitely a feeling amongst Shetlanders that that is what they are Shetlanders, not so much Scottish. And I'm still happy with my new pick-up.

Depending on which end of the market you're interested in, check eBay. I picked up one with case and bow for £40 including P&P ("Uyea Instruments" IIRC). Of course the bow was a piece of rubbish, but still it was a pretty good deal. It's actually a reasonable volume without amplification, it sounds OK when amplified, and it's well set up with a nice action. There's also the S-shaped Stagg ones for around £50-60ish.

I can recommend the new transducer pick-up being sold by skyinbow.
Use your existing fiddle either acoustically or via a PA - the best of both worlds. I've fitted one and am delighted with it, and I don't have any business connection to the company. And Skyinbow are Shetland based, not Scotland.

There's also Skyinbow violins made in Scotland. I've seen these as a fiddler I used to be in a band with used one.

The Electric Fiddler site lists quite a few makers.

i have a bridge (Sleaford)

A lovely instrument (high action only criticism), beautiful, not cheap but cheap as far as good electrics go. They also do fivestrings and cellos.

There's also Ted Brewer in Sheffield - fabulous looking clear resin ones - Vanessa Mae uses one
