Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: GUEST,Sarah, Barnsley Date: 16 Nov 07 - 08:41 AM i have a bridge (Sleaford) A lovely instrument (high action only criticism), beautiful, not cheap but cheap as far as good electrics go. They also do fivestrings and cellos. There's also Ted Brewer in Sheffield - fabulous looking clear resin ones - Vanessa Mae uses one Sarah :) |
Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: redsnapper Date: 16 Nov 07 - 08:50 AM There's also Skyinbow violins made in Scotland. I've seen these as a fiddler I used to be in a band with used one. The Electric Fiddler site lists quite a few makers. RS |

Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: GUEST,strad Date: 16 Nov 07 - 11:19 AM I can recommend the new transducer pick-up being sold by skyinbow. Use your existing fiddle either acoustically or via a PA - the best of both worlds. I've fitted one and am delighted with it, and I don't have any business connection to the company. And Skyinbow are Shetland based, not Scotland. |

Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: Grab Date: 16 Nov 07 - 08:48 PM Depending on which end of the market you're interested in, check eBay. I picked up one with case and bow for £40 including P&P ("Uyea Instruments" IIRC). Of course the bow was a piece of rubbish, but still it was a pretty good deal. It's actually a reasonable volume without amplification, it sounds OK when amplified, and it's well set up with a nice action. There's also the S-shaped Stagg ones for around £50-60ish. Graham. |
Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: GUEST,strad Date: 17 Nov 07 - 10:05 AM Shetland was mortgaged to Scotland by the Danes as a dowry back in the 1400's and Scotland won't let them redeem the mortgage. Perfidious Alba! There is definitely a feeling amongst Shetlanders that that is what they are Shetlanders, not so much Scottish. And I'm still happy with my new pick-up. |
Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: Stringsinger Date: 17 Nov 07 - 09:44 PM Barbera pickup is top of the line for electric violins. I have a Mark Wood. It sounds good. New York City maker. You can google him. Frank |

Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: fiddler Date: 20 Nov 07 - 03:20 AM Bridge Fiddles http://www.bridgeinstruments.co.uk Not cheap but incredible quality Andy |
Subject: RE: Review: Electric Violins From: GUEST,c.g. Date: 20 Nov 07 - 03:46 AM Bridge, Ted Brewer - really good instruments. Carlo Giordano are cheaper instruments, available in the UK though I don't know where the company is based, good value for the money, though obviously not like the Bridge or Brewer fiddles. |
