Went down to Sainsbury's yersterday morning (November 19) and they were blasting out Jingle Bells and such like stuff. I complained at the till, and again at the customer services desk. Interestingly, the two members of staff said how much they agreed with me, especially as they have to listen all day. They said they would pass on my comments, but I don't hold out much hope. What is the general opinion here? Am I just being a grumpy old git, or can we legitimately expect a bit more respite? I think December 1 would be quite early enough in the supermarkets, as a compromise.

Kevin:

What!!!???

If we ALL complain EVERY time we go to the supermarket (or wherever) surely Sainsbury's et al would get the message. Then again, perhaps not.

I don't hate Christmas, I love it, but at Christmas - not the middle of November!

I certainly spotted mince pies with a use by date in November.
Just remember that Jingle Bells in NOT a christmas song - In Digitrad. It is a Winter sleighing story and comical.
Quack!
GtD.

Daughter complained on Monday about 'Mary's Boy Child' in the sandwich shop (insert own pun here).
Mind you, she DID also say she had seen Christmas decorations up in at least two houses. Strange lot on Wearside!

A local radio station prides itself on being the first in the area to start playing Christmas music. Each year it seems to start a little sooner. This year it was the day after Halloween.

You're lucky if they wait until November nowadays. I'm pretty sure I've heard of Santa arriving in some shops as early as August. Makes me grumpy too, but its pointless to try fighting it. Last year (and with good reason) our office Christmas party was booked in July!

There is a house near me that has had a tree and lights up since the 1st November. Ironically, it's usually this house that puts the tree out in the garden on Boxing day.

'Jingle Bells' was written in 1857 by James Pierrepoint as a Thanksgiving song but was so popular it was repeated at Christmas. Hearing it in November, in the US, is entirely appropriate, but not so in the UK.

I can't do blickies here at work but try this site: http://www.carols.org.uk/jingle_bells.htm for more information.

Our office has foregone the usual Christmas parties this year. We're about to move premises and no-one knows when. Bet your bottom wossname it'll be the day after we've got the decorations up. That and the manager asked a team of 60+ staff for suggestions and got only 3 replies. And only 2 of them were printable!

Jingle Bells Shotgun Shells
Bullets all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride
In Santa's Chevrolet HEH!

I complained about the Christmas music at the Christmas Tree Shop and the lady there begged me to be quiet. She was afraid they would switch over to Christmas With Elvis.
And so I went screaming from the store.
Next time Jacqui and I will sing along...LOUDLY and off key while we aggressively push our way past idiots blocking the aisles and leaving their droppings on the floor.
From Jacqui: "Dear, life will be so much simpler if you pick up what you drop."

They start with it before Halloween over here.

Ummm, Sins, what other kind of music should they play in a Christmas-themed shop?*bg*

In Wyoming, the traditional big get-together for all of the pioneer/rancher folk was Thanksgiving as they were mostly snowed in by Christmastime. That was before cars, etc. but even then it can still be the case.
