Subject: Review: Folly Bridge - Remastered Tapes! From: The Admiral Date: 20 Nov 07 - 01:58 PM This is 'heads up' for all the fans and friends of Ian Giles, Graham Metcalfe and Claire Lloyd, the incomparable 'Folly Bridge' whose tapes have worn out or gone to that chewed-up tape heaven. Doug Bailey of our favourite Folk recording studio, Wild Goose, has remastered the two tapes released in the early days of Wild Goose and produced a limited run of CDRs for only a tenner (sterling that is!) each! He originally did the work as wedding present for Graham and Lucinde to take a 'proper' recording to Canada after their wedding but was persuaded (after a jar or two!) to release the whole kit and caboodle to the adoring general public. Here's what he has to say; CDR352CDR 'All In The Same Tune / Unabridged' 'This album is a re-release on CD of two albums which were originally released on cassette in 1991 and 1992. The album has been re-mastered from the original tapes. These two albums were recorded in the very early days of WildGoose. All in the Same Tune was the first album to carry a WildGoose catalogue number, WGS252MC. WildGoose will shortly be celebrating its 100th album milestone and it seemed fitting that this album should carry a catalogue number of WGS352CD. It is also the first album for which I have decided to do a limited CDR run. I have done this in order to satisfy the select number of people who I know have worn out their cassettes and would like to replace them. I hope you enjoy it without the wonderful tape hiss'. 1.The Cropper Lads 2.Pony Driving 3.Go from my Window 4.Old Molly Metcalfe 5.Lowlands 6.Young Simon John 7.Come me Lads 8.General Taylor 9.The Herring 10.Bedlam City 11.Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy 12.Watercress O 13.Bay of Fundy 14.Carrion Crow 15.April Morning 16.Drink Puppy Drink 17.The Sheepstealer 18.My Bonny Lad 19.Twa Corbies 20.Adieu to Old England 21.I Like to Rise 22.Two Bretheren 23.Bonny at Morn 24.The Farmers Toast 25.Bay of Biscay 26.Happy Sam 27.The Grey Goose and the Gander Here's the link to the Wild Goose home page which in turn is linked to the 'Folly Bridge' page; Wild Goose Studios Pearl and I have already got a copy so dip in quick, just remember that it is a limited run! Happy Listening and Folly Bridge Forever! Tony |

Subject: RE: Review: Folly Bridge - Remastered Tapes! From: GUEST,Wayne Date: 07 Dec 07 - 07:32 AM You're right, Mr Spencer, all the members of Folly Bridge appear on Sharron Krauss' splendid Right Wantonly A Mumming album, even singing together on To Shorten Winter's Sadness. Folly Bridge was the first act I ever saw in a folk club. It would would be some time in the (very) early 1990s and I got a leaflet pushed through my door about Oxford Folk Club, at the Port Mahon pub. As I was getting bored with rock music and had started to dabble in folkier stuff (Lindisfarne, The Byrds etc.) I thought I'd go along. Ron Taylor & Jeff Gillett were headlining & F. B. were the first floor spot. It was all a bit of a culture shock (joining in? what's that all about?) but they must have done something right because I'm still listening a decade & a half later. Halcyon days..... |
Subject: RE: Review: Folly Bridge - Remastered Tapes! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 19 Dec 07 - 07:35 AM Just found this thread, what on earth is this all about? Haven't we got enough of this harmony rubbish ruining Folk Music at the moment. Any how they sound really old and much like Folk Club material. |

Subject: RE: Review: Folly Bridge - Remastered Tapes! From: GUEST,Claire Date: 06 Aug 14 - 06:48 AM Hello, this is Claire from Folly Bridge, posting as a guest because my Mudcat account has expired. All the tracks from the remastered CD are up on YouTube now, complete with lyrics. Feel free to download and share, as it is no longer possible to buy the original. YouTube: Folly Bridge Playlist by Alcalaina Unfortunately there is a fraction missing from The Farmer's Toast, right at the beginning, just a couple of seconds. This was a fault on my only copy of the CD. The rest is fine, so I didn't want to leave it out. Thank you Reinhard for spurring me on to get this job finished, and for providing such detailed information on your website. I now know much more about some of these songs than when I was actually singing them! |
