It's very comprehensive for the 'big' events... but where do the 'grass roots ' sessions happen ? Always been led to believe that it's very much a 'participatory' festival

I've been at the last 2 CCs and haven't tracked down any sessions apart from the song circle that happens in a side room in the Festival Club. Admittedly, I've been working so had other priorities. I had never understood it to be 'participatory' in nature as it was primarily set up by business interests as a concert series to fill hotels at a quiet time of year. Not a 'trad community' initiative, although obviously the organizers built on the popularity of 'Celtic' when they dreamed it up.

I know that some Mudcatter gave details of a 'fringe' festival that was developing in the city a couple of years ago. Might be worth tracking that down.
