I know John Townsend from later years when he and his missus Clare ran the great Battersea Folk Club at the Plough in St Johns Hill.
That was in the 1980s.
He and Clare now live in Raynes Park SW20 and I bumped into him the other day. He doesn't do gigs any more ( a shame   - a fine performer) but says he does go up to the monthly sessions (4th Sunday in the month) at the Hand In Hand pub at Wimbledon Common SW19 4RQ.

I went to the Waggon and Horses every week and remember all the floor singers well. Loved it. Even when I moved to Bath to train as a nurse I still came back on a Sunday night.

I remember John when he ran the folk club in Kingston at the Cricketers, and how I down in the bar I was dwarfed with John Townsend standing on one side of me, and Neol Murphey on the other.

I remember them well from Hammersmith Folk Club in the 60s and 70s, both very tall and great company.

Where are they now? They were regular guests at Newbury Folk Club around 1970-ish. Anyone out there remember the Club, at the Waggon and Horses, run by Richard and Pia then?
