Thanks, Scooby, same to you, BUT it does seem a bit early over here. Mostly because I hate all of the media/consumer Christmas hype which starts before Halloween!**bg** I refuse to have anything to do with Christmas, except getting my Secret Santa stuff done, until AFTER Thanksgiving, which is today.

Damn, I haven't put the Christmas tree up yet, thus no presents wrapped or under the tree!

My decorations aren't up yet! Aaaaggghhh! I'm so late!I guess I've lost the spirit of the Commercial Christmas Rush.

The neighbor's tasteless mishmash of lights, moving animals and flashing Santas was lit the day after Halloween. Saw my first "Kids you have to have this piece of crap toy or you can't be happy." ad last night. And so it begins.

And merry crimble from me too.
As I am in the middle of doing the Christmas Craft Fair thingy, I have had to put my head into glittery mode ages ago. I'm usually very blasé about it all by the time I get to start my own seasonal decorating.

I posted my overseas cards yesterday, and have scratched the surface on the mountain of UK ones. Unfortunately, my method of doing this means that my living room looks like the aftermath of a card shop explosion.

...What do you mean it's always like that?!

Why are you all moaning? The secret santa thread has been going since 2nd september, thread requests for Christmas songs and notifications that Sheffield Carols and Padstow carols are being sung have been posted and no one complained then!
It is getting closer, Last posing date for some overseas countries from the UK is even nearer.
I too HATE commercialised Christmas, but genuine heartfelt good wishes I really do LOVE!
So I will join with scooby and wish all you 'catters a great yuletide, Christmas, midwinter or whatever you celebrate - have a good one, put your humbugs away!
Cheers, Lucy

From: Donuel

We wish you Happy Holidays full of good cheer, peace on Earth, miracles and a celebration of the birth of the savior of humanity. Yet your humanity is not as strong as you might think. It takes only 5 or 6 days for normal compassionate people to lose their way. 30 years ago an experiment where a flip of a coin determined if the subjects were to play guards or prisoners showed how easy this process is. The guards became vicious and the prisoners suffered nervous breakdowns.

This kind of reaction is most likely to be expressed as a group or team but seldom by an individual. When one person is in a room they are certain to report smoke billowing from beneath a door but put 3 people in the room and each of them wait for someone else to do something which results in no action being taken by anyone.

This is how Nazi guards laughed at the shrieking damned as they climbed a pyramid of bodies composed of their neighbors, friends and family to escape the Cyclon B. Or how air was sucked from thousands of lungs in Dresden or how the Japanese briefly saw themselves glow incandescent while the pilot above ate a Milky Way. This is how American Abu Graib became the same torture chamber as it was under Saddam Hussein. This is how 5,000 people a year die mysteriously in police detention away from other inmates. This is how endless lines of Jews were so easily herded into cattle cars. This is how Jonestown Kool Aid was made. This is how America can now invade, kill and torture while declaring democracy, justice, technical legalities and innocence.

What is most disturbing is the belief that you are immune from this group dynamic, you are not. Be it an armband signifying authority, a mass religious or political gathering or team, all the humanity one thinks they have can vanish in moments. Its not just mob mentality, it can happen with as few as 3 people.

The one person who does go against the group to do the right thing or stick their neck out is sometimes called a Hero, a boy scout, a whistle blower and is sometimes called a traitor. Those who go along are sometimes called company men, loyalists, patriots or simply main stream. This is why the saviors who simply call for peace often become the martyrs. Humanity it seems is not in the business of saving their saviors.

This is how my "compassionate" neighbor who might spend many hours a week in religious worship and workshops can call for the destruction of certain branded human beings and openly seek new members to join their cause. He does not see it as fear mongering, hate or murder; he sees it as not tolerating evil any longer. Yet he too thinks himself immune from the loss of his humanity.

I would hope that you might be the one who stands up to be the hero.
I would hope that you love your family and children as well as the families and children surrounding you. The facts are, the odds are against you. The only defense you have against all the weapons in the world is your personal communication, your personal faith and your personal expression of love for your neighbors in this world.
We wish you a peaceful and loving holiday.

Merry Christmas from Donuel

A HAfiz Poem for your hols:

What Do White Birds Say

The earth has disappeared beneath my feet,
It fled from all my ecstasy,

Now like a singing air creature
I feel the Rose
Keep opening.

My heart turned to effulgent wings.
When has love not given freedom?
When has adoration not made one free?

A woman broken in tears and sweat
Stands in a field
Watching the sun and me
Trade jokes.

But never would Hafiz laugh
At your blessed labor
Of finding peace.

What do the dancing white birds say
Looking down upon burnt meadows?

All that you think is rain is not.
Behind the veil Hafiz and angels sometimes weep

Because most eyes are rarely glad
And your divine beauty is still too frightened
To unfurl its thousand swaying arms.

The earth has disappeared beneath my feet,
Illusion fled from all my ecstasy.

Now like a radiant sky creature
God keeps opening.

God keeps opening
Inside of Me.

HAFIZ

Thanks, Padre. I get confused.

To my friends: Have a great and safe X-mas season. Please don't drink and drive, smoke and drive or leave the car somewhere and drive.

I abhor this time of year because we have far too many responses to scenes where the news is terribly sad for someone, somewhere. I'd hate to hear it was any of y'all. Keep well and stay well. Love you, and thanks for the encouragement to do with music, life in general and the future.
