Upon reading the emergency flash intelligence message of OBL's message today Dick Cheney suffered a heart arythmia that is now requiring hospitalization at George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC.

Unreliable sources insinuated that OBL is releasing the secret energy policy notes and kick back records of Dick Cheney.

Amos, wrap your brain around the idea of who could replace Cheney should he predecease his term. He's so awful, who would Bush find to possibly be as bad or worse? You know he'd give it a try. Better the devil you know? Who knows.

While I thoroughly despise Cheney, I wouldn't like to see someone else step into the VP job at this time. Why? Because Cheney is a lame duck who isn't running for President in 2008. If Bush were to give the job to Rudy Giuliani, the advantage of having a standing VP as its nominee could swing the election in the Republican party's favor. Lack of experience on the national level is seen as one of Giuliani's weak points. Let's not eliminate that minus by giving him almost a year of on-the-job training before the election.

Bush can't just pick the replacement VP can he? The Speaker of the House moves up the chain, yes? I mean as long as that person has no problem with torturing people with no charges filed against 'em and all.

Nope. When Agnew resigned Nixon picked Ford, but Carl Albert was Speaker of the House.

The Speaker only becomes President if BOTH the Prez and Veep are outa there.

Source for the report that he was admitted to the hospital?

All I've seen is that he went in to see about "a cold" and they noticed a minor out-of-sych, so since they apparently had a set of microprobes handy they gave him a quick zap. (They might have recharged his pacemaker, but they didn't say so.)

The report was that he went back to business for the rest of the day, without being admitted. Sort of a non-event, on a par with publication of P. Hilton's latest marriage manual.

The zap was done last night and he was sedated for it. He returned to work this morning. Source: Washington Post.

John.....Cheney doesn't have a pacemaker. He has a defibrillator, a different device.

First, atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) is extremely common in heart patients who have had the number of problems Cheney has had. I was surprised that he seemingly has had little problem with A-Fib before. Some, like myself, have lived with A-Fib for years, in my case over 10. I figured Cheney was already on warfarin but I seem to be wrong.

The device he has is an ICD, Implanted Cardiac Defibrillator. While A-Fib is common and "relatively" harmless, Ventricular problems are far more serious and sudden death can occur from Ventricular Tachycardia (V-Tach). On minor ventricular events, the ICD can briefly pace the ventricle and administer some very minor shocks to help the process. Should that not work or the event is more serious, one that could easily cause death, the ICD delivers an extreme ZAP to stop the V-Tach. If the cardiac refraction is below 35% most cardiologists are recommending these devices. They're using them on kids and old folks and everyone in between because lower refraction rates can bring on a serious V-Tach condition which will result in almost immediate death.

The ICD is not rechargeable. The device will last approximately 7 years and then need to be replaced. This of course depends on usage. Cheney just had his replaced (6 years). The ICD "surgery" is very quick, about a half hour to forty-five minutes with an overnight stay to monitor the settings. Initially, an incision is made between the neck and shoulder in the upper chest, just enough to make a "pocket" for the ICD. The unit itself is about an inch and a half square. The procedure is done in a cath lab as the cath is used to place the leads correctly.   Cost for ICD and "installation" is about $90,000.

Spaw if you're not a doctor you play a fairly decent one on the web :<)
$90,000 sounds like a Neiman Markus special (marked up 700%)

I'll take your word on what Cheney has. I've seen news reports that used both terms, and didn't really care which it was in this case. - just something to reference that he has a long-standing "condition."

Thanks for the informative rundown, though. At my age, all such info is potentially useful.

Warfarin might not be a good idea for Cheney. It seems to have different effects on varmintspeople of his kind ... (?).

Just something to toss in John and I was sitting here waiting for the phone call that never came today.....***sigh***......

And yeah Donnie, that's the general retail but I know that they accept less. In my case the insurance paid about $48,000 and we paid a few hundred and the bill was paid. Once again I pity those with lesser or no insurance. We have got to have National Health Care !!!

As far as playing Doc goes, I'm working on my cardiology degree from the "I-Got-It College of Medicine." Let's see here, I've had a Quad By-Pass, a Cardio Mapping and Ablation (trying to cure the A-Fib), an unrepaired dissecting aortic aneurysm running from the Femoral arterial branch to just below the aortic arch (same thing killed John Ritter but his was about 2 inches past the arch so it ripped the heart muscle), a metal, artificial St. Jude's Mitral Valve surgically replaced by robotic surgery (I was the second valve ever done by the DaVinci robot as it turned out), AND, most recently, an ICD just like Dickie's!!! I take 9 different meds daily, some of them twice a day. A month or so back, my GP said I was a testament to modern medicine and she was right. With all the meds I take, I like to paraphrase the DuPont folks by saying I am "Barely Living Through Chemistry."

Now lest you think I'm sickly and bedridden and all that, here are some recent PHOTOS with my wife Karen, my son Tris, Bill D., and Rita (Ferrara) when they passed through Columbus. I'm the fatass in the purple Hoosier Racing Tire shirt(;<)).......Now I ask ya'......Do I look like someone with all that crap?

Don't answer that..........

A new story up at MSNBC/Newsweek on the state of Cheney's (purported) heart blatently plagiarizes Spaw, giving absolutely no credit. I find it hard to believe that they could have copied his post just a couple previous and slapped it up so quickly.

Pardon me for being so insensitive, but I hope Cheney's balls rot and that he infects the festering site when he scratches them, that miserable sonuvabitch. I now return this thread to it rightful owners.

Geez Brucie, I don't think anybody on the thread likes the asshole! All I was saying was that he and I share some common problems. The biggest difference between us is that I'm a handsome son of a bitch and he's just a dick......Not even a hard-on...just a limpass dick. Well that and then of course he's unfortunately in a position to blow up most of the world as well which is kind of a pisser.

The lead line on the news item I heard repeated hourly on NPR was that "Doctors at Walter Reed were 'evaluating' Cheney". Clearly, we all have done that job!

Ya' know Charley, I dunno' what to think about that.........and since I am not thinking, I can't exist, at least if I am to believe Descartes, Then again, outside of himself, who said he existed.....but now that I've had the thought, therefore I DO exist so that must be me. Like I said, I recognize the shirt.

The key thing is that I look good and Dick looks like a flaccid dick.
