I bought the DVD 'Paul Simon. Graceland: The African Concert.' 7599-38136-2. It isn't the concert that I remember from TV in the '80s. I'll swear Linda Ronstadt was in that one.

This one is OK, but not as good as I remember, it has more African politics, and Simon seems subdued.

How many are there, and has anyone the ID# of the one with Ronstadt in it?

That's it, Villan. The DVD is of the Zimbabwe event, not the South African one. There are big posters in the stadium extolling president Mugabe.
Thanks. I never think of using Wikipaedia

It's nicely put together, but a little disappointing after the LP and my memory of the televised video.

I remember seeing the televised version of the Zimbabwe concert, but I don't remember Linda Ronstadt being part of the performance. She doesn't feature on the CD either as far as I know.
Confused :-{

Effsee, she wasn't in the concert DVD (Zimbabwe) that I bought, but I'm sure that I remember her in the concert that was televised here in NZ. She did a solo and sang a little with the backing girls. And no, she wasn't on the LP so far as I know, but it was a long time ago that I heard it, and I've never heard the CD to compare it with the LP.

That is, assuming my memory is still working properly.

The DVD has just appeared in the lists of the cheapo Warehouse stores here, at about half the full retail. And less than I paid online, even without freight.

Linda Ronstadt sang "Under African Skies" on the original album as a duet with Paul Simon. I seem to remember seeing them together on Saturday Night Live, but I don't recall her participating in the concerts or the DVD's.

Here's a video of Paul Simon singing "Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes" with Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 2007:It's a memorable performance.

I have the DVD of the Zimbabwe Graceland concert, and very good it is.

I always assumed that it was held in Zimbabwe because people like Hugh Masakela and Miriam Makeba were exiled from South Africa at that time. One of Masakela's numbers is Free Nelson Mandela.

And just make you jealous, Sen (lovely to see you here, by the way) I had the great pleasure of seeing Larysmith Black Mambaxo in Brighton around 1988 or so.
