Under another thread title I'm asking for lyrics for 'If you're in my land with a gun in your hand, you ain't no friend of mine'. It has now been suggested that the song has been recorded and perhaps composed by Dick. What can you tell me?

Ewan McVicar

It doesn't sound like any song I've heard Gaughan sing. You can find his home page at www.dickalba.demon.co.uk/main.htm where he lists a lot of his songs.

It definitely is one of Dick's songs. I recently came by a recording of a show from 1987 where he refers to it as one of the most inane songs he has ever written

I remember it too although I can't seem to locate it on any of my Gaughan albums.
He certainly sang it a lot during live performances at the time.

:-))

It was during the period when US Cruise missiles were to be stored at Greenham Common. Reagan as President and The US foreign policy was particulary "hawkish" at the time.

I hadn't realised until now that Dick doesn't seem to have recorded the song unless I'm missing something.
