I was singing

"T for Texas T for Tennessee,
T for Thelma who put a spell on me..."

When the question occurred to me, are there many songs with a single letter like this out there (other than the obvious titles with an a or I or the like).

It's one of those things that hits you early in the morning, like two or three and you are somewhat crazed in the head and think of deep things, like who invented brillo pads...

I was just informed that Jimmy Rodgers who sang this first and it was a real hit...recorded at the end of 1927 and came out in 1928. It was entitled "Blue yodel Number 1 (T for Texas)" but was recorded by many others under just T for Texas....

only one that comes to mind at the moment is "A, Your Adorable," (a hit for Perry Como around 1950):

"A, you're adorable
B, you're so beautiful
C, you're a cutie full of charms
D, you're a darling
And E, you're exciting
And F, you're a feather in my arms . . ."

"C C Rider"? "Riding on the L&N" has one too many letters, I spose. And if it could be stretched to more initials, there's always "D.I.V.O.R.C.E."...

If they don't have to start with that single letter, there's The A Train. (Or is it called TAKE the A Train...?)

I see that my repertoire is too limited, having come into the world late in my life (too much work, too little play). Time to listen to music and singing it....

I do have to say I haven't heard thye kkkiss me kkkkatie song, but willing to try it with kkkkatie if she is available....

Captain,

I do like Cole Porter a lot, by Kiss me Kate isn't exactly a single letter in the title....I did hear Richard Thompson at UCLA's Royce hall in his 1000 years of popular music concert doing some wonderful Cole Porter....

Astro...in LA

(By the way, Desert Dancer, it wasn't me who kissed Kkkate...she first kissed me!)

This will force me to reveal that if you go to the Folk Music Index and browse alphabetically, you will find many entries at the beginning of each letter entry... the same is likely true for many other song indices.

Hmph!

I've always thought the song was called K-K-K-Katy, as that is how it starts. Shows what an amachoor I yam.

M is for the million things you gave me

(there's also a very funny and sarcastic version of this song for people who have had mothers who are more like Ray Romano's mother than the standard Hallmark Card variety of mom)
