ps i think his stuff is stunning (so I am biased and it may not be folk but humour me)
pps if you want to listen to hhis stuff its on youtube and just google for him

Well, at the very least *this* 'Catter has heard of him, and yes, he's great!

Granted, I'm quite an unusual 'Catter...I'm really first and foremost a member of the filk community, rather than a traditional folkie. And Coulton's music has been sweeping that community.

My personal favorites? "Skullcrusher Mountain", "Re: Your Brains" and "Mandelbrot Set", probably in that order.

While I agree with Gary's list, I'd like to offer the addition of 'Future Soon'

Well he seems to have got his shit together admirably in a business sense. And he has a great voice for the material.

Not really sure what Codemonkey is bitching about. That we are electronically tagged - well no wonder, given what the non tagged members of our community get up to. the lyrics don't actually speak to me, maybe I'm the wrong generation - or perhaps I haven't heard enough.

Pleasant.

I like some of his songs more than others. I really like that he puts his songs out with a Creative Commons license, and encourages people to put his songs together with their own interpretations.

There is a fellow up on YouTube name Stephen Torrence who performs videos of songs translated into Grammatically correct American Sign Language (Not Signed Exact English), and thanks to creative commons, many of his performances are of Coulton's songs.

Here's Stephen Torrence's rendiniton of Re: Your Brains (He includes the English lyrics and ASL translation in the closed captions, and in the information section of the video).

And I really like Christmas is Interesting. On one level, it's a satire on modern Christmas culture, but on another level, it's a haunting reflection on mortality and grief, and it's also sweet, in a strange way.
