Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Frankie and Albert (Charlie Patton) From: Roberto Date: 25 Dec 07 - 02:12 AM Thank you very much, Stewie. Bill D: it is a pity and a bit strange that people that love traditional music and blues don't know Charlie Patton. But I'm interested in what you suggest about Audicity: please, explain me what to do. Thanks. R |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Frankie and Albert (Charlie Patton) From: Stewie Date: 24 Dec 07 - 10:44 PM Merry Xmas, Roberto. Below is John Fahey's transcription of Paramount 13110 exactly as it appeared in the appendix to his Studio Vista book on Patton. I reckon it's mostly right. However, I agree with the transcription that you posted that it is 'down' in S1L4, 'everybody' in S3L2 and 'on Sunday' in S5L1. Also, to my ears, it could as easily be 'moonlit block' as what Fahey gives. It could be 'handful' of dollars rather than 'hatful', but impossible to tell. FRANKIE AND ALBERT Well, Frankie went down to Albert's house 'How late Albert's been here?' Old Albert's sitting in some kid girl's lap, Buying some kid gal's beer Hey, he was my man, But he done me wrong Well Frankie, she called Albert She called him some two - three times Looked down the road about four o'clock She must 'a seen Lil' Albert flyin' Hey, ... Well Frankie she was a good old gal As anybody knows She would pay one hatful of dollars For the makin' of her man's clothes Hey, ... Well Frankie went down to the court house To hear Little Albert tried Old Albert was convicted, Frankie hung her head and cried Hey, ... 'Can you remember all last Sunday Twentieth day of May? You 'buked me and you cursed me Oh baby all that day' Hey, ... 'Tell me some folks give you a nickel And it's some folks give you a dime But I'm going to give you a smile instead For I know you was a man of mine Oh, killed her man (x2) Oh, Frankie went to the cemetery Fell down on her knee 'Oh lord, will you forgive me And give my poor heart ease?' Hey, ... Well, Frankie's mother come runnin' Come a-whooping, screaming and crying 'Oh lord, oh lord, My only son is dying She killed her man Yes, she killed her man I think the Studio Vista book is available with the Revenant collection. Perhaps the transcription has been revised. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Frankie and Albert (Charlie Patton) From: Goose Gander Date: 24 Dec 07 - 07:50 PM Well, I'm getting a Charlie Patton collection for Christmas, so I'll report back if I can add anything. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Frankie and Albert (Charlie Patton) From: Bill D Date: 24 Dec 07 - 03:57 PM You won't find a lot of folks that even have the Charlie Patton version. I've never heard it. (You ought to learn to create MP3 files and edit them with something like Audicity, so you could post sections for folks to just click on and listen to.) |
