There are two broadcasts on RTE next weekend featuring Irish Traditional Music from Liverpool.

On Friday on RTE Radio, Pascal Mooney's show 'The Irish Experience', comes from the St Michaels Centre in Liverpool. There are interviews with Irish people living in Liverpool and live music from members of the Liverpool Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. That Friday, 14th December at 9.00 pm on RTE Radio.

On Sunday 16th December on RTE1 TV at 5.25pm there is a TV programme about the Irish community in Liverpool. In it, the work of the local Comhaltas branch in teaching Irish traditional music to the next generation of children is highlighted with scenes of lessons taking place, interviews with some of the young musicians and more live music. Thats 5.25 on Sunday 16th December on RTE1 Television.

Recall listening to RTE shortly after it started its 2nd channel

The accompanying station jingle went:

'Radio 2, Ireland's number one!!'

Apologies. Should have read 'Your point being?'. I didn't get the joke. I assume it was some sort of joke. I just thought you might be good enough to explain it to a thick paddy scouser like myself.

Anyone in Ireland able to video or DVD the RTE TV programme for me please? I will obviously pay for the video/DVD and postage (to England).
Many thanks
Derek Schofield

Thanks, Happy. Derek, the crew promised to send us a copy of the show on DVD. If that happens and they don't object, I'll try and get a copy for you. I want to get their permission first as they were very courteous to us when they were filming.

Thanks to Mr Happy - presumably you are referring to the radio programme which I will probably be able to hear. It was the TV programme I was interested in acquiring.
so, many thanks Chris B. That would be very much appreciated. It is only for personal research and interest. I am hoping to do a feature or two on Liverpool in English Dance & Song in conjunction with the City of Culture, and this would be very useful to see.
Many thanks again.
Derek

The point? It's a bit like the days when "The Gay Byrne Hour" ran from 9.15 to 11.00 a.m.!

Regards

You're welcome, Derek. If you're interested in doing some stuff on Liverpool give me a shout. I am, for my sins, the new chairman of the Liverpool branch of Comhaltas so I can probably hook you up with a few names you might want to talk to. You can PM me on CCBJEBBRB@aol.com.

Chris

The show I plugged earlier on RTE TV can be seen on the RTE site by clicking this link. I cnn't actually watch in on my computer-for some reason my machine won't take Realplayer 11.

The exceedingly pretty and charming 8-year-old on the segment, by the way, is my daughter, Bridget. (Sob).
