I just heard from Jerry's partner, Nancy Klein, and I sadly pass along the news that "Philadelphia" Jerry Ricks died this morning in hospital in Croatia. He'd been in hospital there since August when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Jerry was 67.

I got to know Jerry circa 1973 when he spent an extended period of time in Montreal. I consider the long conversations I had with him back then an important part of my musical education. Jerry and I renewed our friendship when we ran into each other at the Folk Alliance in Memphis in the late-90s and when he and Nancy spent some time in Montreal in 2001. While he was here then we did a long interview with live music on Folk Roots/Folk Branches on November 22, 2001.

The podcast was very moving. Thanks for posting it. Philadelhia Jerry Ricks sounds like he was a great guy and a great musician. I'm sorry this was my first exposure to him.
