Well known and well established exciting dance side need musicians. West Midlands gigs lined up for 2008 but need Blue Grass/Old Timies to play.

Can anyone help?

Please contact me.

Sal

If I lived in the West Midlands I'd love to play; playing for dancers has to be my favorite activity. Is Merrion Wood still fiddling for you?

Wow...We saw this group when we were in Middlewich in '05, and they were fabulous. Wish we lived on t'other side of the pond! Wishing you all the best talent, clamoring for an opportunity to play for you!

Hi Sal; I've been looking around for musicians, but I could do with knowing where the Dancers are based. West Midlands is a big place!

Couple suggestions:

change the thread title to "Musicians in the Midlands"

and explain what drove the old musicians away. I'm sure it was something benign, but people wonder.....

First of all the musicians weren't driven away, so far as I know. After having been on the road for may years one of the band has decided to retire. Contact the dancers and ask.

Secondly I don't know how to change the thread.

I know a great Old Time fiddle/banjo player who lives near Newtown, Powys. Would he be somewhere near the right location? If he is, I'll get in touch with him and see if he's interested. I notice the Kiclin' Alice Website doesn't give the location more accurately than Shropshire/Herefordshire

I think Stourbridge would be a good epicentre to consider if you need a mental image of the location.

Looks to be about a 160 mile round trip - I don't think he'd be interested. Shame.

The practice place could be negotiated... they used to practice in Leintwardine South Shropshire/North Herefordshire. About 25 miles from Newtown.

I have played with Haddenham Hoofers a lot, and another side from Kent way ( at Straw Bear ) ---sorry, can"t remember their name !!( Broken Ankles ?? ), But I would LOVE to play with Alice, if I knew what festivals they were going to in 2008, as I hope to go to lots ( starting with Alcester in Feb. ).       Roger....

I'm afraid my OT musician friend near Newtown can't make it - he's known about Merrion leaving for a while, but thinks it's too far. Sorry.

Hi Sal
They were great at the Shrewsbury FF dancing in The Square in the town centre.

Hope you find a good lot of musicians to take up the challenge.

BTW The Boat is open again. Session is good again, but we do miss Jon.

Also the Ludlow session may be moving again in the new year.

Merry Christmas
fliss

I'm reliably informed that some of this brilliant dance group are going to the Irish Set workshop in Leintwardine, North Herefordshire tomorrow 20th January. I must email Peter Maw and warn him that he could have more people going than he first expected!
