Subject: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: bermuda (inactive) Date: 04 May 99 - 05:16 PM Jim Ringer released an album titled "Any Old Wind That Blows" in 1975. The second tract on the A side was titled (I think)"As Long as I Live". It was a song about friendship. If anyone knows the lyrics to that song I would greatly appreciate it if you could pass them along. Thank you |
Subject: Lyr Add: AS LONG AS I LIVE (Roy Acuff) From: harpgirl Date: 04 May 99 - 05:52 PM Bermuda, Here's what I have. I don't think it is complete...
As long as I live, if it be one hour
It was easy said that night we parted
As long as I live if it be one hour
That ole bright moon we once saw together
As long as I live if it be one hour There might be another verse, bermuda...harpgirl

Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: Frank of Toledo Date: 04 May 99 - 05:55 PM Does the chorus go something like this? "SHE'S A BUTTERFLY IN MID JULY AND JUST CAN'T SEEM TO FIND HER BRAND NEW WINGS?" If so I have an old album with lyrics that I'll dust off and get them. |

Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: Frank of Toledo Date: 04 May 99 - 06:18 PM I must have the wrong song, but I know the title is correct. A Nashville singer-songwriter in the early 70's wote a song titled "ANY OLD WIND THAT BLOWS'. I have the old dusty LP and it was recorded by Johnnny Cash sometime in the late 70's or early 80"s. The laslt line goes..."SHE'LL GO SAILING OFF ON ANY OLD WIND THAT BLOWS".................... |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: Banjer Date: 04 May 99 - 06:58 PM Harpgirl, I recognize the lyrics you wrote but I remember Kitty Wells, the Grande Dame of Country Music doing that song. Beautiful song it is..... |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: bermuda (inactive) Date: 04 May 99 - 08:25 PM harpgirl Thanks, but I'm not sure those are the lyrics I'm looking for. Do you have the album? I think the chorus went something like this: As long as I live, wherever I go Whatever I may do. If ever I have had a friend, I've had a friend in you. bermuda |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: harpgirl Date: 04 May 99 - 10:54 PM Bermuda, I have the album out and the second cut on the A side is As Long as I live (by Roy Acuff) with those words. So I guess it must be another song you are looking for, huh? harpgirl |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: Sandy Paton Date: 04 May 99 - 11:18 PM Bermuda: Could you be misremembering, and the song you're seeking is the old Carter Family song called "You've Been a Friend to Me?" The last lines of its refrain are "If ever I have had a friend, you've been that friend to me." Sounds suspiciously like the one you're quoting above. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: harpgirl Date: 04 May 99 - 11:45 PM ohhhh synchronicity, Sandy. That is the melody I think Sara Ogan Gunning uses on "I hate the company bosses." Now that you mention it the fact that it is a Carter tune would place it in the right era for Sara's song...harpgirly |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: Mudjack Date: 05 May 99 - 01:18 AM My God,how it feels so good to hear Jim's name hit the threads from time to time. It means some Mudcatters out there who never had the good pleasure of seeing or hearing him sing might go out and discover Jim's music and singing of songs. He had a corner on sounding so committed to song. Jim was a major influence on my wanting to sing songs with that kind of committment.Iv'e got all my LPs packed away for moving. Sorry I could'nt help out and even more regrets I can't get to them to hear 'em. Mudjack |
Subject: RE: Help with lyrics to a Jim Ringer Song From: Stewie Date: 22 Apr 04 - 04:19 AM I stumbled across this old thread. I thought I might add Dick Feller's fine song which Frank of Toledo was puzzling about above. It is from his 'Dick Feller Wrote...' album. ANY OLD WIND THAT BLOWS Lord she's restless Like cotton candy clouds that sail the day Slow and free ... and she possesses A mind that can't resign itself to stay For long with me Though I've tried and tried, to keep her tied and satisfied Until she really needs me But when that certain look comes on her face I can't replace it And she leaves me Chorus: She's a butterfly in mid July Who just can't wait to try Her brand new wings On brand new things And she needs no rhyme or reason when she goes Her mind is on what lies beyond that wall of blue horizon I suppose And heaven knows She'll go sailin' off on any old wind that blows I know she needs me About as much as I need someone else Which I don't ... And if need be I swear some day I'll up and leave myself ... which I won't But even If she loved another man I'd understand it more than I do But I know the only reason that she ever has for leavin', is she wants to Chorus She'll go sailin' off on any old wind that blows Words and music by Dick Feller.
