The Advent workload's really getting to Hardi-- he got stuck last night on the really funny idea that for tonight's service, we really should go with the "Wimoweh" tune. We got started, but I could use some help completing this. We'll use what we can tonight and use more of it next year if the thread rolls on.

In the stable, the darkened stable,
The Savior sleeps tonight.
In the stable, the darkened stable,
The Savior sleeps tonight.

Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel,
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel.....

Hush my darling, my little darling,
The Savior sleeps tonight.
Hush my darling, don't cry my darling,
The Savior sleeps tonight.

=====

Wicked, WICKED Hardi!

~Susan

Hi,

For a third verse, maybe something like:
In the night sky, the winter night sky,
A bright star shines tonight.

Well, maybe not to be sung third. The stress on WINter is lighter than on the other two. Ideally, we need a different word, but alternatively you might want to use it as the first, to let the song grow.

By the way, this approach is akin to the explanation an African gentleman once gave for the original, with a different saviour:

Ras Tafari, the Lion of Africa, is not dead; he sleeps and will awaken if danger comes near. So if the Lion is asleep, then in the jungle and in the village all is safe.

Hm, I think I would retain the "Don't fear, my darling" of the final verse. If you like the "don't cry", maybe you could use both:
Hush my darling, don't cry my darling,
The Savior sleeps tonight.
Hush my darling, don't fear my darling,
The Savior sleeps tonight.

I hope this is of some help,

Great to see new versions of older songs take root.

Hi,

Just curious: Did this really come to pass? And if so, was there a favourable reaction?

Bye,
