Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: FreddyHeadey Date: 13 Mar 18 - 10:05 AM Mr Red - Great little stories. Thanks. ! I want to hear a bit more about the children in the lock ! Shame they're not songs but that would make a good one... For posterity are you able to tie the recording dates down any more than 20th century. ? |

Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: Steve Gardham Date: 24 Mar 15 - 04:21 PM Hi, Ian Spare Hands have just launched their latest CD of trawling songs based on Hull fishing industry. We are now looking to put together a CD of songs about the Humber waterways, Trent, Ouse, Hull, Aire & Calder, Sheffield, Wakefield, Leeds, etc. We have keel songs and plenty on the Aire and Calder, but if you have any other suggestions we'd be grateful. We are looking mainly at industrial and heritage rather than the leisure industry. |
Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: Ian Hendrie Date: 24 Mar 15 - 12:52 PM Hi Dave, Glad you found this thread. I REALLY AM still interested in acquiring a copy of this programme for the 'Songs of the Inland Waterways' website : www.waterwaysongs.co.uk. I can be contacted via the e-mail address on the website or PMing me here on Mudcat. It would be fantastic to here from you. Belated reply to Geoff the Duck : Your suggestion only got me as far as some unhelpful admin person. Regards, Ian |
Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: GUEST,Dave Dobbin Date: 24 Mar 15 - 07:01 AM If you haven't got it by now, I have a recording made at the time. I've only just found this post (and the tape) and I'm currently trying to digitise the programme. Unfortunately, it's not a good digitising package, and there is a small amount missing when I had to turn the cassette over about 40 minutes in |
Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: Geoff the Duck Date: 18 Feb 09 - 07:24 PM Why not try contacting Chris While and Julie Matthews directly via their web site - HERE. If the songs are theirs, they may give you the notes, if the songs were from some other performer in the radio programme, they may know who you would need to contact. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: GUEST,JimMartin Date: 18 Feb 09 - 11:36 AM Could 'Waterways World' help? |
Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: Ian Hendrie Date: 18 Feb 09 - 05:17 AM Thought I might have another shot at asking if anyone has any knowledge/recording of this broadcast. I am attempting on my Songs of the Waterways website to provide an archive of British and Irish canal/waterway songs. But a song without a tune is just a poem - isn't it? Ian |
Subject: RE: Tales from the Towpath From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Dec 07 - 07:11 PM Could it have been part of the Centenary celebrations of the MSC, Ian? I had the pleasure of being involved with a play put on in Salford Quays for that event in 1994 - Possibly around the sane tine you are thinking of. The only 'tales from the towpath' I can find is about the Rochdale canal but maybe a search of the MSC centenary may help more? Cheers Dave |
Subject: Tales from the Towpath From: GUEST,Ian Hendrie Date: 23 Dec 07 - 06:54 PM 'Tales from the Towpath' was a BBC radio documentary about the building of the Manchester Ship Canal broadcast in the 1990's. It featured some songs by Chris While and Julie Matthews, including the excellent '36 Miles away from the Sea'. I have words for the other songs but no idea of the tunes. It's a long shot I know but does anyone have a recording of this programme? |
