Subject: help me to plan a Burns night From: fogie Date: 24 Dec 07 - 12:47 PM Our session group has been asked to play at a Burns evening, and I'm wondering which cats may have put together a similar event - what would go down well? which Burns songs would be appropriate (not poetry -presumably the group holding the evening will do all the usual things like toasting the haggis) Which tunes? presumably things like Athol highlanders, Scotland the brave -And what about Edward's army as a song- any ideas will be gratefully considered. |
Subject: RE: help to plan a Burns night From: Emma B Date: 24 Dec 07 - 01:35 PM So many wonderful Burn's songs to choose from..... My favourite, Ae Fond Kiss, but The Deil's Awa Wi' Th' Exciseman might be a good choice for whisky drinkers... Lots more here |

Subject: RE: help to plan a Burns night From: Jim Lad Date: 24 Dec 07 - 03:43 PM Will you be addressing the Haggis? I promised to learn it for this year. If one of you can have a portion of it ready (not the whole thing) then you can at least step in if requested. MacPherson's law... Whatever can go wrong..... |

Subject: RE: help to plan a Burns night From: Padre Date: 24 Dec 07 - 04:19 PM With enough Laphroaig, even a sassenach might enjoy haggis. Padre (MacDonald of Glencoe) |
Subject: RE: help to plan a Burns night From: terrier Date: 24 Dec 07 - 05:21 PM I wouldn't spoil Laphroaig by allowing The Haggis to share the same space ;) Last year we held a Burns night and although it was definately a Scots flavour to the night, not all the items were Burns. Two poems read were 'Beautiful Bridge Over The River Tay' and 'Ode to a mouse'(Burns). Lots of Scots reels from the musicians, songs,a mixture. No one complained so were going to do the same this year. |
