Is it Steve Thomason's "We are children of the earth, air, fire and water"?

Welcome Song
Words and Music © Rena Yount

Child, we wait for you
For the right and joyful hour of your birth
Gladly, we welcome you
To the circle of the children of the earth.
May it be a dance
May it be a song
May the days of your life be bright and long
On the good green earth

This is from memory - so I can't vouch for it's accuracy

CHILDREN OF THE EARTH
(Brian Pearson)

We are the Children of the earth
The tillers of the soil
The heirs of hunger and of dearth
Born to unending toil
Born to unending toil

We work the fields from early light
Bound by an iron law
And when we stumble home at night
We sleep among the straw
The unremembered poor

When darkness falls we take our rest
We rise before the dawn
Day after day until we die
We labour, we are born
To poverty and scorn

To plough and sew and harrow in
To harvest reap and mow
In frost and snow and icy wind
To the weary fields we go
The lowest of the low

Despised and beaten, trodden down
Our counsel still we keep
Our voiceless hearts you do not hear
We do not sigh? or weep
Our rage is hidden deep

We are the ones who made the earth
Who carved and shaped the land
Who cleared the forest, tilled the soil
By skill and strength of hand
We poor and ragged band

We have been here since time began
Since sun and moon were new
Since Adam delved and Eve she span
Pray come and tell me true
WHERE, GENTLEMEN, WERE YOU?

A wonderful song which Roy Bailey recorded on "Freedom Peacefully", which I have somewhere but I'm not quiet sure where.

I think it was written by Brian Pearson, not sure but I think Frankie Armstrong sings it also.

Hi, Vin - I've moved your request over here. Thanks for adding the songwriter name. That question had been unanswered since 2007.

Here's the Roy Bailey recording: Ken Wilson recording: Joe Offer, Mudcat Music Editor
