Just heard that Charles has died. No real details yet - he choked, and subsequently suffered a stroke.

Charles was a good friend to s&r and to folk music and to Fylde.

He was skilled as a computer tech fixing things no-one else could.

He will be missed in this area

Stu

I take it that this is not the same Charles Webb that wrote "The Graduate"?

No, Charles was one of the willing workers and supporters. He was often at Fleetwood Folk Club, and helped at Fylde Festival. He was a ham radio operator at one time. Charles and his brother John, who survives him were patient computer 'fixers' for the Fylde area.

Charles had a 'flu type bug over Christmas, and choked during a coughing fit. He was taken to hospital where it was found that (with the strain of coughing?) he'd burst a blood vessel in his brain. He died earlier today.

There are many unsung heroes - without them the world would be a poorer place. We are pleased to have shared Christmas with him

Stu

I'm very sorry to hear that. It is people like your friend that has kept the music alive and enjoyable for others.   I am very sorry to hear about your loss, and my condolences to you, his family and friends.

Would this be the same Charles Webb who was "let go" from the Nautical College around 1992 for an alledged incident with a 16 year old student, and also the same Charles Webb who was cautioned by the police some years ealier for an alledged incident with a 12 year old girl ?
Its a shame if it was, as we now have no-one to call "charlie chester the child molester".

Very helpful, Mr Gribble - not least for Charles's many friends & family who'll no doubt be reading this thread in the time of their grieving. What possible pleasure can you get by lobbing around such mere allegations without having the balls (or else the wearwithal) to back them up?

But please, if there is any substance to which you might be privy, keep it to your ghoulish self and the let the man rest in peace, eh?

Maybe Mudcat should have a Knee-jerk Tabliod Sensationalism filter to stop this sort of thing getting through.

Yes, sorry, It was on reflection a mistake to make that post, and if there was a delete button, I would use it. I just got annoyed by the "unsung hero" description.

The best we can hope for in death is an honest and balanced summation of our life.

We give value to lives of those who've passed on by learning from, and celebrating, their successes and their failures.

My condolences to his friends and family.

I worked at the Nautical College with Charles for many years and in my experience, he was a good and decent man and very capable electronics engineer who tried to do his best at all times. May he rest in peace.
