Subject: Singers' night - Guildford Fri 11/1/08 From: Surreysinger Date: 07 Jan 08 - 07:51 PM You may have seen the thread regarding the cancellation of Les Barker's gig at Guildford on Friday 11th January due to his recent heart attack. The hire fee of the room which we use has been paid up front, so the room is available for use that night, come what may. Lawrence Heath who runs the club has decided to throw the doors open that night for a singers' night. There will be no charge on the door, but I think the intention that the hat (or probably more likely the plastic bucket we use for the raffle tickets!) will be passed around to defray some of the costs. Obviously this will only work if we have some people who want to sing that night .... so, if you're within hailing distance please do come along and join us. (Otherwise we will be nattering in the Institute Bar - no bad thing as the members are nice people - but the intention is to make music!!) Details of the club location can be found at The Music Institute website The doors open at 7.30pm, and music (or, if we're not lucky, talking) should start about 8pm |

Looks like these singarounds will work well considering the amount of local talent who turned up! |

Subject: RE: Singers' night - Guildford Fri 11/1/08 From: Surreysinger Date: 14 Jan 08 - 10:48 AM It was good to see you Hilary, and nice to make your acquaintance. The organisers enjoyed it a great deal too (although the evening was a write-off monetarily) - and it was good that some of our regular punters got the chance to air their wares. (Normal club nights don't give much opportunity for floor spots, due to the tight time restrictions which mean we have to be out by 11pm on the dot). There were two right stars there who I don't think were known to be singers (well at least not to Lawrence - I knew about one of them!) - I rather think my regular spot may be in danger [grins]. It's good too that it happened just before Anna Tabbush starts her regular bi-weekly open house sessions (first one this Friday, January 18th) - at least it's obvious that there will be enough talent around to fill the whole evening, particularly bearing in mind the fact that this was an unexpected singers night!! If anyone wants to come along to that, they'll be very welcome, I have no doubt. |
