Subject: Lyr Req: Dawntreader (not Joni's) From: GUEST,Gloucesterman Date: 09 Jan 08 - 04:21 PM Some one has emailed me looking for the rest of these words. I confess to never having heard the song. Anybody recognize it? Here is what she sent me: Out of the harbor and into the sea The Dawntreader moved soundlessly Farther and farther from her port she sailed With the wind blowing up a mighty gale (and I forget the next verse) and the wind was fierce The rain crashed down like mighty spears The ship was tossed, and all thought death was near And the God's wrath had struck them here. Chorus Steady as she goes boys, Steady her true, The Dawntreader will see you through. The sails were tattered and the ship was worn Then just as night was heading to dawn Land was sighted off the starboard bow And the captain said, "Bring her about." Chorus: |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dawntreader (not Joni's) From: oldhippie Date: 10 Jan 08 - 08:05 AM I wonder if this is related????? PRAYER ON THE DAWN TREADER Jeff Kepple Father of light, come to the dark Cast out the fear, rise in my heart Open my eyes, open my ears ' Til I am sure You're present here Calming the raging sea Reaching Your hand for me Through tempest nights Your love is true Help me believe my refuge is You I will be found safe in Your arms Waking to view the breaking dawn Sailing the shining sea Moved by the breath of Thee Open my eyes, open my ears ' Til I observe Your glory here With all my heart, with all my mind, with all my strength, I love You With all my life, with all my breath, with all my words I worship You Lord Every sin I now confess and You will make me clean Holy wind of lion's breath, lifting me into Your peace I worship Thee |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dawntreader (not Joni's) From: Barry Finn Date: 10 Jan 08 - 01:07 PM I made a Pacific crossing under sail from Hawaii to Califonia on a 48' cutter called the Dawntreader in the summer of 81. She was out of Port Townsend, Washington. Doubt if this song is related though, it was an uneventful sail, meaning very pleasant, no storm or sinking issues only 12 days in a row of being becalmed. Happy hour becalmed was very musical as 4 out of the 6 of us were singers/musicians. Barry |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dawntreader (not Joni's) From: GUEST Date: 08 Aug 15 - 03:09 PM The sails were tattered And the wind was fierce The rain came down like mightly spears The ship was tossed, and all thought death was near And that God's wrath had struck them here... This is a complete verse that is missing from the partial one above. I too have searched for the full lyrics without success! Learned the song originally at Mystic Seaport, CT |
