Boris Grebenshikov is one of the pioneers of Russian rock, in 1980 he was kicked out of the Komsomol and fired from his job because he performed at a rock concert with his band, Akvarium. He was not only heavily influenced by Russian and Eastern folk music, but also by British and American folk and folk rock of the 60s, like Richard Thompson, Dylan, Silly Wizard, etc. I found a great link with live recordings of covers of song in English. The sound quality is sometimes poor, but I had great fun listening to these. BG sings them convincingly, so it isn't a case of 'look how cute it is of my to sing in another language.'
