Top concert at the Owl in Rodley, Leeds this Friday (18/1). The Duncan McFarlane Band disguised as Taylor Max will be giving us an evening of "rockin' folk". The poster suggests Taylor Max includes Duncan McFarlane, Gerry McNeice and Geoff McTaylor. Not sure if any other band regulars will be there. Whatever, it's sure to be a splendid evening.

As usual, there's no door charge and there'll be a surfeit of local real ale for sale! Kick off, 8:30pm or so.

See y'all there

That proves the truth of the saying then - "where there's Mc there's money". ('owls of derision...)

Wish I could be there! Enjoy!

Dave - that's orrible. The owls of derision belong somewhere with the amster of destiny..... nevertheless I'm sure that Dunc & co will do well, though I'm afraid it's too far for me to attend tomorrow.

Kitty

As the howls of expectation fly up the Headingley Road of lost memory
And the wasted beer of youth trickles down the inconvenience of the Skyrack
The scary love child of the DMFB howl the white rose of terror
In the Owls of Rodley, Leeds on a cold Friday of ....................

What did Henry V say about where were you?

Les

As two McF band members were AWOL (in France), the decision was to play under a different name, hence 'Taylor Max'
Dunc McF elected to play electric guitar the whole evening and dual with Geoff (like the old days!)
Gerry McNeice stood in way more than admirably on bass guitar duties.

The 'usual' material and arrangements thereof had to be drastically dropped/revamped - and Geoff was given the dominant role of chief 'show-off' for the evening (I mean that kindly, as in - 'featured')

Taylor leading the way supported by the the two Mc's (McF & McN)
Hence the name!
Phew - that took some explaining!
Anne on leccie fiddle and Nick on drums completed the ensemble.

So there were extra HEAVY souped up versions of Woodshed Boys and Can't Go there etc for the first half - an interval - and about a two hour second 'half' of 'traditional' cover versions just for fun!
(Elvis, Stones, Beatles, Bad Company, Steppenwolf!!! etc etc)
It all went very, very well!!! - Dunc

Gutted I couldn't be there! I was down south helping a friend celebrate his demise into old fartdom. It's been ages since I've caught the band in any format live & I still haven't got the new c.d. I'll have to get over my aversion for sending for things, rather than buying them in person!

The Owl's blog reckons that it was an absolutely storming night. Really rocking! But then it always is with Duncan and his crew!

Thanks for the advice, chaps!

I'm away for the winter warmer weekend, sadly. It's got a terrific line-up! Maybe next year....

I'm just back home after a terrific weekend which started with a trip to The Owl - wow! what a night!. Dunc played his brand new electric guitar for the whole evening and to great effect too.

I suppose "Taylor Max" did read better than "Taylor Mc's".

Great gig all - looking forward now to Dunc's solo spot at Gainsborough Folk Club on 1st Feb now - but without a leccie guitar in sight!.

Can't wait.

It was great to be part of the Max (Mcs).

A splendid time was had by all.

It seems my bass playing services are required elsewhere this year as I'll be a'thumping out the low end for both
Tanja Rice
and
Christopher Brant Anderson
over the summer.

Thanks to Dunx, Anne, Geoff and Nick for having me. It were grand.

Gerry :-)
