If you're not busy and fancy it there will be a singaround/session this Sunday at The Swan And Talbot, 34 North Street, Wetherby, LS22 6NN, starting around 8.00 pm and finishing when people have had enough, so even if you have to get up for work next day you should get some time in. Musicians, singers, all welcome. If it works it will be a regular monthly event.

Sorry Peter,

We can't make it this month, we're off to see Steve Earl at the Sage in Gateshead...apologies, we'll try next month.

Hopefully should make it on Sunday. What sort of format will it be and what sort of music are you after?

If you were to make it 4th Sunday in the month in the afternoon would fit in with Wakefield first and Ackworth 3rd in the month sessions

Just a suggestion, but may attract

Ray

To Nick, and anyone else with the same thoughts, this will be essentially a folk-based event, but good music is always welcome. The format is likely to be a simple round the room, for anyone who wants to perform, songs or tunes, with opportunities to join in with other people if they're happy about it.

To Ray, I started looking for the last Saturday of the month, as that was a gap in our calendar, but failing to find a venue ended up with the Sunday after the last Saturday, though it may well, by default, become the last Sunday, and two out of three times that's the 4th Sunday. If it's successful and there's enough interest then maybe it could be extended and become a mammoth session covering afternoon and evening.

Thank you Greycap, it went well, we had a good turn out, we were happy, the manager of the Swan and Talbot was happy, and the next one will be 24th February, and the last Sunday of each month thereafter. If you couldn't make it yesterday come next time and see what you missed.

The Swan & Talbot's history…
This important posting Inn on the Great North Road had ample stabling in coaching days from whence departed the carriers to Leeds. There was a soldiers room under the eaves and a malt kiln in which they brewed their own beer. This Inn was first licensed in 1678, giving it over 400 years of history as a public house.

Frequently families of social standing allowed a local inn to bear the family arms and so considering the foregoing it is possible that what local people called the Dog and Swan, bore the Arms of the Swann family before 1611.

The family spelt their surname Swann but the first baronet spelt it as Swan, which is a tradition that has carried through to today.

The name was changed from The Dog & Swan to The Swan & Talbot. A talbot is a dog – a Talbot Hound – bought into the country in the 11th century. The breed is now extinct but the modern day beagle is its closest ancestor.

I loved it last time. I'll be there this coming Sunday,I have a gig with my two buddies at the Market Tavern in Knaresborough from lunchtime until about five pm, if anyone is interested, then I'll be over to the Swan & Talbot. Recommended.

February's singaround was a more select group. That's because you weren't there. This month it will be even more select as I won't be there--folk weekend in Derbyshire instead. But it will still be happening on Sunday 30th, and Jim Potter will be running it for me. So if you came before come again, and if you don't know what you're missing, come and find out.

Next Sunday will once again be the last Sunday of the month, so once again we shall be meeting at the Swan and Talbot in Wetherby at 8.00pm. Last month was very successful, but if you want to know just how good it is you'll have to come.

May try to get to this if not this month then next. Ray, what happens in Ackworth. Its only a couple of miles from us but thought the folk club had ceased to be.

I have an afternoon gig in Knaresborough at the Market Tavern, with Tony Martin & Tony Aked. However, if I'm not too knackered afterwards, I'll be over, 'cos I really enjoyed the other one I came to with my buddy Bill Sables. I'll see if he can make it too.
Cheers,
Roger Knowles
